Hows the fuel economy? Have you got plans for your diffs?

Fuel economy is out the window, about 24.5 lt per 100km around town.
I will definately changing the diff gearing to get back close to stock. Any ideas on who I should use and the approximate cost would be greatly appreciated.
Also, does anyone know if I can maintain the varilok from the current diff?

You could keep the vari-loks but if youve gone this far why would you ? Better off getting some lockers.

Thanks, from what I can tell, the vari lok rear diff pretty much locks fully under enough load. But I'm a little worried about the front axles/dana 30 with the 35'' tyres if I go for a locker on the font as the varilok doesn't lock fully on the front possibly saving my shit from breaking.
Any experience with this anyone? would love to hear.
I have been looking at the Iron Rock Chrome Molly Axles as a possible option.

That's one fat looking rig! ;)
Where do you live in Bris? Im currently building my WJ up with LA's front and rear and lockers etc and keen to try it out when its done.:D
How do you go with steering clearance, do the tyres rub the front LA's?

My 2 cents on the WJ diffs - don't bother polishing them to run 35"s.
The CV's in the front are weak, There's not as many upgrades available for the marginally strong D44a. IMHO look for a new set of F&R diffs.

Indro mate. I don't have any clearance issues at all, but I have done some pretty extensive cutting and bashing to make this so(only to the body). The rims are 16x8 with a 4 1/2" back spacing and sit absolutely perfect under the flares.
I did have to grind a reasonably big notch out of the track bar housing to make the Iron Rock track bar fit.
That is not what I wanted to hear about the diffs Wooders!!! :(

Yeah I wouldnt bother with the diffs either. They not up to the task for 35's. Nore the CV driveshafts for that matter.
Why not look at some TJ diffs? Prob less than $1k for the diffs, then budget another 4k for lockers and ratios.

TJ diffs would be to narrow, could try SJ diffs or JK ones are a good fit .That said WJ diffs ,if you use IRO uni conversion front axles, should be ok as long as your sensible with the loud pedal.Front diff is same as TJ apart from CVs after all & rear diff whilst not well supported by aftermarket is pretty strong.

Thanks for the info guys, I will probably go down the IRO upgrade for now. I plan to turn this thing into a rock eating machine eventually, but trying to keep to a fairly strict budget right now.
I will end up going with the complete IRO KJ upgrade at a later date.

That is a very nice looking WJ, certainly breaks the meld from the usual Toraq Tractor Grands with the kids at the shopping centre. Nice work.

:mrgreen:looks good, how much chopping is involved in it ? did you need to move diff's or anything special ? or did the "4" Iron Rock Critical Path Long Arm Lift" sit everything in the right place and you just cut up the body to make it fit?:mrgreen::mrgreen:
do I need to do it to mine, without the r--ter finding out ? ;);););););)

front flare's make it look a bit like a WH/WK sort of ;););););););););)

Alot of chopping...don't go iceland flares if you're not a fan of major panel cutting, welding and fibreglassing. Didn't need to modify anything else except for a bit of grinding to fit the track bar. Sits great, ride is superb!!

They seem to be ok so far, haven't done much offroading yet though. Time will tell...;)
I do need to get a set of "Offset Ball Joints" to allow camber and caster adjustment. But it actually drives straight as an arrow.

Sorry mate, didn't take any.
Did you do the flare install yourself ? i have the xj version on mine .installing them is something i never want to go through again they really take a lot of work to get right ,they do look good though.
Did you have any trouble getting the supplier to actually send what you paid for ?
