Today I installed a "Volo Dynamic Soft Flash fuel saver chip"
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320564069813&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It is essentially a piggy back chip which is designed to be spliced into your diagnostic port wires.
I was not too keen on splicing my wires so I bought an OBD II connector from Jaycar online. (so it just plugs in and unplugs. Totally reversable)
If anyone is interested I will keep you posted on economy gains (if I get any).

Since I installed the chip I have only done 200km which was a trip to the panel shop. The car is still there because apparently it takes six days to get a replacement headlight.
In that 200km I didn't notice any change in fuel economy from the chip.
I do a lot of 500km trips and the car has travelled 30,000km in the past twelve months.
At the start while travelling at 110km/hr it was using 13-14litres per 100km which I thought was shocking. I was lucky to get 500km to a tank of fuel.
At around 25,000km I think it showed some improvement using on average 12litres to the hundred km.
If I drive at 90km/hr I have gotten about 10 litres to the hundred km on a good day.
At 100km/hr I average about 11litres to the hundred km.
I so use upper cylender lubricant and injector cleaner quite regularly which boosts the economy at least 10%
I will report back when I have covered some more distance with the chip in.
