Hi All,
Spent this weekend just past using the Jeep KK to tow the horse and float on a 500km round trip. I have the factory mopar towbar fitted when I bought the car. It was a combination of Freeway, country roads and a little bit of around town when we hit Canberra. The float and horse weighed in at around 1650kg, with another 350 - 400 or so in gear and 3 passengers.
I have the Tekonsha Voyager electric braking unit which worked a treat. Whilst many would think the KK is not a 'tow' vehicle because of its weight limit of 2350kg's, within that limit it is extremely stable, comfortable and had more than enough power to pull up hills at 100kms or so for a couple of hours at a stretch. Braking was stable, controlled and there was no noticeable increase in body roll etc. It might be a 'small' diesel but it certainly has pulling ability. On a normal run of this nature I would average about 8.5 - 9 ltrs fuel /100kms. On the way down this got as high as 17.8/100kms and on the way home last night it dropped to 16.1/100kms. All in all it was a very successful first outing for the Jeep fully laden and we certainly won't hesitate to take it out again.
