hey guys just thought i would throw this together to show you what i went from to what it is now.
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/046.jpg
it started off as a bone stock 05 wrangler with a 2" lift

from there it got a body lift and 32" bighorns

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/010.jpg

i also bought a hardtop for it
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/IMG_2652.jpg
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/IMG_3085.jpg
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/cruiserpark043.jpg
it was at this stage i wanted some more flex and a bit more height, i bought some 3.5" springs and used shocks. and found i had to spend a heap more money to go this big in a wrangler.
So i bought a slip yoke eliminator kit which basically replaces the crap slip yoke on the transfer. and also adjustable control arms.
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/Cruiser10077.jpg
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/Cruiser10083-Copy.jpg

my next issue was traction and gearing. while the $$$ was good i bought 4.56 ratios and a detroit locker from the states for a reasonable price, i also bought a 4wd lokka for the front.
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/IMG_2597.jpg

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/Cruiser10350.jpg

and then as of last week i got a set of new boots in the form of 35" maxxis creepy crawlers
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/001-2.jpg

and that is how it sits as of the moment next on the cards is a winch, some beadlocks and half doors.

umm if i had it over again definetly arb lockers the front locker was fine with the
32's but with the 35's i think it is just asking for trouble in a d30.

went out to glasshouse mountains for a bit of a wheel. didnt go to bad apart from one broken flare, torn off mudflap and a longside front axle.

thanks for the positive comments guys. yes i do think a 44 for the front is on the cards. what 44 would best be used to keep similar wheel track and 5x4.5 stud pattern? or would it be best to try and find a d44 / 9inch combo?

i have been told that there are certain xj's that have a hp d44 frond diff & axle assembly ;)

sht50
26-07-2011, 07:09 PM
i have never heard of an xj with a 44 front ever. us tj rubicons are the only 44 fronts that would fit by only changing the panhard mount. i would think i would be looking at an f150 front 44 but i would have to shorten the long side by a couple of inches to get it similar to a tj rear 44. but rather than shorten it i could do a 44 /9" and keep them full width and just change the offset of rims.

ummm D/S a piller is dented and both sides of the tub are missing some paint. have ordered a set of TnT tube flares front and rear so that will cover most damage just have to organise some windscreen surround gaurds and should be done. would have been alot worse without the sliders. those creeps are absolute animals of tyres, just need to get them on some beadlock rims so they stop blowing beads at 4psi.

well after a bit of a stuff around with getting tube flares and the like i have decided to go a different route than just flares. the new plans are to hi-line the car with some custom tube flares/armour i will also be removing the bodylift and putting the
2" springs back in and some new shocks hoops are in the works. so its going to be nice and low and still be able to flex hard with my 35's. Phoenix fabrication will be doing all the work and all ill keep everybody updated with progress shots. should be finished within the month.

Morgs
17-10-2011, 08:26 PM
That will be some impressive work. Will you still be running the standard shovel or are you be thinking of a tummy tuck with lowering it that much. I accept that with the 35"'s your ramp over will be fairly good.

I am running about a 3" suspension lift and am presently struggling with some vibes around the 100/110km/h mark (I have a tummy tuck which raised the tranny by just over 1", no MML or BL). I am thinking of throwing in a 1" MML in but to do that I will really need a 1" BL unless I modify the tunnel fairly heavily. I have never been a fan of a MML and BL but am not really in a position atm financially to go with what you are doing up front and maybe outboarding the rear shocks. Will watch this with interest.

brenttj
17-10-2011, 08:32 PM
i was never a fan off them either morgs but i ended up doing it fairly easy and 1 inch doesn't look to bad

sht50
17-10-2011, 09:25 PM
you can buy my mml and body lift lol. for starters i will be running the standard shovel. i will be talking to dan about the possiblity of running a dead flat belly plate and cut the tub to put the transfer basically through the tub. i cant see why this wouldnt work but he is the fab guy and might have some more insight into this. im really looking forward to seeing this take shape and think it will be so stable to wheel. there is also a genright stretch tank going in to make way for the shocks they wont be being outboarded like usual instead there will be hoops into the tub of the body to hide them a lil bit more that ouboarding them, oh and the upcoming stretch in the new year.

17-10-2011, 09:30 PM
what are you doing about your axles mate did you upgrade them to chromos??

sht50
17-10-2011, 09:37 PM
nope not throwing any more money at the 30 they are dead set a waste of money. looking at either a 44/9" or 44/60 combo undecided at the moment

18-10-2011, 09:01 AM

sht50

18-10-2011, 06:04 PM
it doesnt matter when your spinning such a heavy 35. just have to stop using so much throttle i suppose. or just upgrade the jeep to suit my driving style which is what will be happening.

sht50
24-10-2011, 06:40 PM
well dropped off the jeep on friday afternoon. cant wait to see what dan comes up with. looks like we are trying for a flat belly plate as well. its gonna be awesome if it actually works out to be dead flat.

Well still waiting on the jeep to get back to me which should hopefully be the end of next week. But while waiting a set of diffs came up that i had to jump on, A set of currie enterprises 9" diffs. Thet have 4.88 ratios, ARB lockers, 35 spline axles. Front is a high pinion and the Rear has a strange carrier with pinion guard.

well after 3 months now finally got the jeep back the tube flares are top notch and dont you love the genright stretch tank and you can also see how he mounted the front shocks on the front passenger seat well here are some pics to show the fab shops great fab skills

not bad hey what do you think. and if anyone wants to buy a brand new set of bent 9" with broken arb lines worn ujoints and stuffed splines let me know.

i wont name the fab shop but they did a great job and i would recommend them to everyone

brenttj

love the sarcasm i hope he didn't charge you mate what a let down,
can you straighten your 9 inches housing how badly bent

sht50
04-02-2012, 04:38 PM
The housings are irrepairable so im looking at my options. might see if Buds customs wants to take the job on of doing the flares and making some custom housings. Just sucks as i have my own wedding coming up and cant exactly afford all this right now.

brenttj
04-02-2012, 04:42 PM
yeah shit must have warped badly from dodgy welding?? should be able to salvage the r&p and air locker for the buds diffs??

sht50
04-02-2012, 04:52 PM
yeah there are ok just have to get some brass tube braised onto the locker. and order some new front axles, uni's and outers. everything else is ok c's brakes knuckles and stuff so will be a side project for a while. maybe its a plus because buds make some trick looking housings.

sht50
05-02-2012, 02:08 PM
ok well went into work today and got some stuff done. got the fuel tank back in and fired her up that was a good sound to my ears.

maybe you would be better of buying some tube fenders love the tailgate whered you get it

sht50
05-02-2012, 02:56 PM
yeah i think im going to get another set of exteneded rugged ridge ones for the rear for now and have them mounted right at the top of the tub. as for the front if i cant make some i might get someone to bring me in a set of tnt hylines but i dont think they make them with a 6" flare and i really need full tyre width coverage.

as for the tailgate i bought it off hollywood about a year and a bit ago. i think its a new cj tailgate with the swag off road drop down tailgate kit. http://swagoffroad.com/Drop_Down_Tail_Gate.html

no flair but surely someone could extend them for u

sht50
06-02-2012, 05:50 AM
yeah i did see those ones. It comes down to to much hassle though. ive emailed tnt customs to see if they would be willing to make a set of 6" flare hylines.

sht50
06-02-2012, 08:12 PM
well got some more done tonight i have done have done more in two days than what this knob shine did in 3 months.

always wanted to flush mount the rear taillights.
made a template first of all
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/001-5.jpg

then measured up where to mark the template to the tub. wasnt to nervous making the first cut considering how the jeep looks at the moment that and if i ************ it to bad i can cover it with some armour which is what i will be doing anyone in the future.
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/002-6.jpg

Got it in there took a couple of goes obviously my template wasnt that spot on.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/003-3.jpg

Shows how far you actually sink them.

And the finished shot. Still not sure what im going to do about the spot where the old hinges go. Probably just black paint until i get some armour made up.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/006-1.jpg

Tomorrow night hopefully my extended normal flares show up so ill be tackling that. But with a twist ill be placing them right up on the tub edge as a hiline. Have to cut the wheel arch into the tub to clearance it and will get some sheel metal cover to cover the hole that will be left. who thought i would ever have to tub a jeep.

Is that your Snap-On storm tool chest :hump:

Where are you doing the work?

sht50
07-02-2012, 06:19 AM
i just cut the platic tabs off the back of the lights and used 4 self tappers to screw directly into the tub. didnt come into the cab at all but on 03+? you have to figure something out with the charcoal canister. Ill have some pics up tonight of wht i did with mine. If it works fingers crossed.

And fat chilli yeah thats mine Snapon is expensive but worth every penny. so far work is being carried out at my work (Ultratune)

Tassie Jeeper
07-02-2012, 03:05 PM
cheers and i love the tailgate other than the drop down kit did it fit right in or did u have to cut and shut a little?

sht50
07-02-2012, 07:51 PM
yeah fit right in just had to make up some latches for it.

Well i was considering high lining it and running the 2" springs, but its a pain in the ass for now and i really just want to get back out there and drive the ring out of it.

I mocked it up where it was going to sit for the highline

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/001-6.jpg

And dont get me wrong it would have looked good lots of room once i cut everything. But instead i just bolted them back in the standard location.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/004-4.jpg

That really all i got done tonight. GOing to call around and try to find some fenders and a bonnet and try and get it wheelable again. Slowly coming together though.

Was trying to get a quote together from currie for all the crap i need for the diffs but somewhere along the line someone ground out the serial numbers stamped into the housing so not sure how ill go yet hopefully here back from them tomorrow morning. If anyone knows the blood line of the diffs Maybe someone that has been on here a long time can help me track down who bought them into aus?

sht50
13-02-2012, 09:05 PM
well got most of the front end stiched up today. 2 new fenders 2 new flares rewired the lights after Dan decided to just cut the wires rather than unplug them. He also didnt return one of my bonnet latches so ill have to order one in tomorrow.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/007-1.jpg

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/006-2.jpg

Hopefully my bonnet should get here tomorrow. and ill basically be done. I wont be painting it for a while as its not my daily and dont want to fork out for someone to paint them as itll cost me an arm and a leg.
Also noticed that the front springs are starting to sag a little bit so ill order some spacers in to try and even them up a little bit. Slowly but surely its coming along and hopefully Be wheeling this weekend

sht50
17-02-2012, 07:13 PM
righto finally got it home. That was one of the nicest drives ever. Had a beer the sarvo and was looking at the back end and thought its not quite right. So i have decided to weld up the spot where the latches are and a couple of little holes in various spots. And have decided to paint the whole rig matte black. after seeint the matte finish on the front fenders and bonnet i really started to like the colour. Ill get some photos up of the prep work as i go along. But hopefully wanting it painted within 2-3 weeks.

sht50
22-02-2012, 05:12 PM
Well decided to pull down the 9" carriers today and right a list up of what requires doing. and i found something else that im oh so happy about. where the end pinion bearing sits there is a great big crack straight down it. ill get some pics up tomorrow. So now im up for another strange nodular housing.
So list of what is wong with these diffs so far
2x bent housing
2x ctm ujoints
1x longside axle
2x brass air lines
1x front locker leaking
1x 9" carrier
and also the wrong diff ratios.
but i dont have much of a choice for front ratios being that it is a reverse rotation 8.8 gear set. all i can find a ratio that might work are either 4.86 or 5.29. I was hoping for a 5.13, But i might just have to go the 5.29s

and got a couple of packages as well first one are the new knuckles

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/005-4.jpg

and second one was the new 9" carrier. only had to trim a little bit down so the locker would fit.

this is how much room there is.

got both front and rears back together to send off to arb to rebuild the lockers and set the gears up. Have ordered the CTM rebuild kits and now i am trying to track down new ball joints but i have no idea what they are out off. So i am scratching my head trying to figure out what to do.

I like your JEEP man, looks really tidy and slick. Good work there :)

I did a skyjacker tummytucker kit on my last TJ, currie 1" MML, 1" BL, RE adjustable upper arms, SYE and a shifter bracket... Worked out fine and make an ENORMOUS difference on the track. The Skyjacker plate with a warn engine / tranny skid infron was like a slide - if it sat on something you could always drive right off it.

where did you get the belly up and how much if you dont mind....iv got an 05 and our stock belly plates are like double the width of your stock belly so that skyjacker would lift it up but heaps

i do but the quality is crap and you cant make out much due to being the middle of the night and only rocklights on. But back on track I have sent the centres out to be repaired and set up. just finished hooking up the second battery behind the seat. Mounted a compressor still have to finish wiring it up. I have also ordered a
12voltguy.com switch panel with incab winch controls. ill get some photos up tomorrow night.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/005-5.jpg

fitted a half softop more so for the missus but it doesnt look to bad.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/006-4.jpg

this is where the second battery lives have enough room for the seat to go all the way back to.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx239/nicholasjohn86/007-3.jpg

and where i mounted the compressor. mainly because i know eventually the air lockers will leak and i hate the smell of diff oil.

yeah slowly enough.

With the front 44 does anyone know what steering setup i should run unsure if i should run high steer arms and have rosejoints in a double sheer configuration. or does standard tj steering work?

hahaha not yet got the centres back needed new gears in both FML so ended up costing me a pretty little penny. waiting on my spindle rebuild kits wheel bearing, caliper overhaul kits and disk rotors. then i should have the front done. hopefully anyway. as for the rear i still havnt got the housing straightened yet. so have to get that done and just some bearing and it wil be good to go. Contemplating getting one of the genright stretch kits bought in but im really unsure which way i want to go with this thing. cheaper way is just put them under with standard tj bracket and wheel it how it is on 35's. or stretch 3/4 link it on coilovers and get a set of 37's.

well i am going to be moving to mt isa in the next couple of weeks, so this is going to become more of a tourer/ long distance traveller now. so am selling of the creeps and have bought some procomp all terrains in a 35", unsure what to do about the 9"s though. dont know wether to sell them off or keep them in the shed and still fit them when i can???? so i am looking into lights at the moment. a light bar is almost a necesity, after hookinh one up on a mates car the other day they are quite incredible. but will also need a set of HID's for the distance. If anyone can recommend some decent lights i would love to hear about them.

But i will be posting up some pics along the way and keep everyone updated...

well i suppose i should give some form of update here. The front 44/9" is complete and sitting in brisbane, the rear third 9" is complete with brand new gears and locker, i have ordered a ruff stuff housing from dragtec customs and realistically should have gone elsewhere, told me it would take 6 weeks to bring in, its now been 6 months and still no sign of it. seems to be hard to find decent fabricators/importers, been stung 2/2 now but oh well not going to let it get it to me. I am still trying to figure out the easiest way to get the diffs under it, and have decided on 3 and 4 links and coilovers, but itll be a slow project as money permits. The goal is 4.0/6 speed/ 4.3 atlas, 3/4 link stretch 100"ish WB and 35's. will make it super reliable in the diff department and make it more suited to the driving style up here ie limited rocks. any way as soon and this housing gets in ill throw some pics up. ill then fly down and put the diff together and get them freighted up to me so i can start the next part of the build.

well i have finally put some time back into this. I hooked up my 12voltguy.com switch panel with winch controls.

I picked up a softop for free up here, must be the only 1 in Isa. And also put the light bar in front of the winch. i was getting way to much glare off the bonnet. even though if i hit a roo its gone.

Even had time to take the r/c crawler out for a burn.
