Hi All,

I was looking at getting some lift soon to help with the decision I've got to ask the question,

What’s the go with Coil Spacers vs Longer Springs.

Are coil spacers just as good is there any pros / cons?

At the moment I do like the ride I get out of the stock setup and I would like to keep it as close to stock "feel" as possible ie: responsive not wiggling all over the corners when on road but of course with a little more lift. :D

Any Ideas???

Qten,

coil spacers are ok. Some say they overcompress the spring and therefore will make for a shorter life span. Sure is the cheapest option at $3-500. Only issue I see is that the stock shocks might be too short for really getting off road and disconnecting.

Even though you have a year 2000 jeep (still plenty of life in your stock setup) you might even think of a complete small lift. This will replace all of your springs and shocks and will probably give you an even better ride than before. I never found the stock shocks to be very good.

An OME lift which is 2.5" will cost you aroung $1200 fully fitted and has been tried and tested.

Or see USA4x4 (melbourne) or Suburban (sydney) and they will be able to help you out with a more customised setup.

Go the spacers if you just want to fit 31" tyres on a basically stock setup for a short term solution, or go with a small lift for long term.

Personally I'd go with new coils if ya got the dosh to do so. I found my OME springs ride better that it did stock.

Thanks for the info zzzzz & Ay,

I though 31"s would fit without any problems on stock rims/setup isnt this the case?

Qten, I ran around on 31x10.5's with my stock set up and they fit fine. I little rubbing on the control arms was the only problem. Solved by placing a washer behind the steering stop on both left and right front wheels. Disconnected and on the trail, also no problems...didn't hit the flares once. Every Jeep is different though, plus you have an ARB + winch, which will lower your stock height slightly. Good luck

Qten, My 4 inch lift comprises of 2" spacers on top of an OME 2" coils and have been running this for years with no problems but you will have to get longer shocks if you are going to space your coils. So when you add $500 for shocks to the $3-400 you will pay for spacers, it might be worth getting the OME lift and be done with it.

i have 2 inch spacers, and i think they are ok. but if i have a choice, i'd go for springs.

OME kit for TJ is good, it has all the schbangs you'll need.
and if you are thinking of putting 2" worth of spacers in, you'll most likely be advise to have rear pan hard rod bracket, blah blah, so you might as well go for the whole kit.. imho
