If you are a REALLY patient man you could try opening the spring side & recoiling it....
I had a problem where it was constanly jamming on extension because of mud inside the unit....
Before I tried to fix this the belt wouldn't rewind very easy.
I then accidently opend the coil side by mistake - POW coil EVERYWHERE....I then spent several hours rewinding the coil the sresult - it now has a strong rewinding action....but be warned it's a PIG of a job....
I then opened the correct side, cleared the mud out from around the bearing and fixed the extension problem....

well i cant live with it, my dad is to hard headed to rememebr and keep slamming the door on it and has scrtached my door trim like 3 times and all the painwork on the inside of the door - whilst my gf 50% of the time cant remeber either.
half the time i jump accross to help it retract before they slam the door - cant do that forever.
so on another note - wooders which side is which?
what other stuff can fix this stupid problem. i considered buying a new seatbelt thats how desperate i am - but the stealerships will charge me a fortune

BRB, its the side that says DO NOT OPEN..... Of course that didn't stop me graemlins/zombie.gif
But before you try let re reiterate it was a PIG a job to get it rewound so do it at your own risk.....
Think DC designed them that way so you can have something to talk about at the pub
I'm on my second seat belt and that's doing the same thing so it's definately a jeep wrangler thing. if the repair job dosen't work go aftermarket for a replacement

I had the same on BOTH side within 12 months of buying my Jeep. Had them both replaced under warranty.

My camira does that on the drivers seat, might have something to do with the fact it's 17 years old. Also, Damageman's rear passenger side seatbelt won't loosen at speed in high range (with the roof off), kinda annoying if you want to look roung to see the rest of the convoy.
Simple non-mechanical solution though. :D
