A friend of mine has just put together a Dick Smith kit (battery isolator) that allows me to charge an auxiliary battery in my Kimberley Kamper from the Jeep's alternator.

No problems there, but the isolator requires a connection to a 12v supply that only works when the ignition is on.

I would appreciate any ideas as where in the car's electricts I could source this from.

Hi,

For XJ diesel I think best to take power from the ASD relay load side. I understand this is only active with ign on.

Check under the cover of the power centre to see a few fuses of interest:-
ign and acc draw, ign off draw and ign.

Best still hook onto ASD relay load side.

To help here are a few scans from the '98 XJ diesel powertrain diagnostics manual.

I suggest hooking up to the wire from the ASD relay that goes to the glow plug relay, vacuum modulator, etc etc All of these are only powered by ASD when ign is on. ASD relay is big and fuse is too.

Hope this helps graemlins/beerchug.gif
