View Full Version : TJ transfer case oil change
Need to change the transfer case and transmission oils. I went to remove the bash plate to get access to the drain plugs and was suprised to find that it supported the transfer case. Do you need to disconnect anything before lowering the plate/transfer case graemlins/dunno.gif I don't want to do any damage :( It made some bad creaking sounds
I also have a noisy cat, I think I'll get a FBH and give it a bang to quieten it up a little :D

Place a floor jack under the bell housing and put just enough upward pressure on it to hold the gear box and transfer case up. Place a block of wood on the jack too. The bash plate acts as a cross member for the gear box and transfer case. And yes if not supported it will come down!
Or rig up some sort of a drain channel to catch and funnel the fluid into a drain pan. Then you won't have to remove the bash plate at all.

Do the drain channel thing - much easier and saves lots of effort for future.
