81 Cherokee Axle Problem

Hi there guys just got a new member in the club and he had the jeep serviced the other day and they said the the front axle needs to be fixed as it moves about 1/4" in and out is this normal or is there some clip broken or some thing...

What axle is he running? Should be a Dana 44 which is a "full floater" and some movement is normal.
Is there weeping grease around the free wheeling hub? Any other signs of stress or wear????
