Ok Wooders,

Good link but what I am looking for is a way to trace the origins of an MB with the serial number (From Chassis rail) GPW79106*

There was a link to a site that gave a listing of serial numbers but I'm looking for history etc

Thanks

Its was a Ford GPW, sn.79106 Not an MB..... You'll probably find a mix of Ford and Willys parts on it most army mechs used whatever fitted that was on hand. There are some around with ford chassis and willys tubs and a whole mix of parts all over.
Some of the MV restorers go so far as to replace all the part with ford origionals. When they built identical parts and vehicles, ford labeled everything including nuts and bolts to avoid quality and warranty issues from willys parts.

cant tell ya much more than that , maybe the canberra war memorial has this kind of info ?
