I'm looking for 3 other vehicles to do the reccie for the barringtons weekend.

Will be an overnighter leaving sydney on saturday morning, returning early sunday.

Plan is to cover as much ground on the saturday and into the evening, so sunday can be spent heading home with maybe a sidetrack at Freemans to play on some of the tracks there.

Date will be 14/15 Feb.

email me at jeepn@ihug.com.au if you are keen on coming.

Sorry dudes,

i'm sure you are all familiar with the term "Blue Arz Fly" well that's been my life for the last 7 days.

Planning on leaving Hornsby about 9AM saturday morning. Meet at my place which is close to the expressway.

Will call you between meetings to discuss in person.

Hey Brad, can you give me some info on this? I will be Sydney with nothing to do and would like to come alone. What sort of gear to bring? Camping gear? Not got much with me but can get some. Where about is the place you are going to?

Thanks.

Dave

Kel .... LOL!!!! :)

It came damn near..... I was high up on the left bank of a deep bog hole, and my wonderful Wrangler S4's just lost grip on all four corners at once... and slid into the depths toward the RHS. It teetered to over 45 degrees,....... and then settled back. I called out to Brad on the radio "Uhmmm.... Brad?... You'd better come back a bit...it's been a big one!"

I wound up the drivers window so that mud wouldn;t come into the cabin if we went over into the muck.....

Tell you what though... I now really like the idea of plastic rear quarter panels. After we extracted the Grand from the hole, the drivers rear quarter was smashed in after hitting the bank. Damn! In front of our eyes, after a time, it just "popped" out all on it's own... and no damage apart from the little reflector on the rear which was cracked. Phew!

Brad's Coopers did a far better job, so I will be upgrading to the MTR's at my earliest convemience.

he he...I saw the piccies posted up by 4x4Chook.....I was wondering...why did Chris try to drive through like that :?:

Looks like you had a bit of fun  ....how did thwe better half take it :?:

..hope your fuel radiator' is still just in front of the rear axle.... Penguin

ciao

Kel

The bank to the left was actually less tree-lined, and the Grand was suffering a bit with scratches.... so I thought I'd give it a go. It would have been OK if the grip was there... and the sidewalls were a bit squarer to get a little more bight.

hehe... been in many, many worse situations over the years. That's what makes it constantly challenging.

Fun fun fun :)

Dorzun
15-02-2004, 07:50 PM

Was actually quite haapy with how it performed overall.

the grand probably has a wider track too Chris...that wouldn't have helped your cause too much either

omaroo
15-02-2004, 08:18 PM
Yup... I was "banking" on that

The lefts were up on th eshoulder, and the rights were ok, but on a dry bit that was about 6 inches wide. The rigths slipped off to their left, and into the ditch. I didn't want to go the way Brad had, because it was really churned up, and the tread was well and truly full of mud already.....

goodol55
15-02-2004, 08:23 PM
so are all the bits underneath ok :?: - it looks like you were "hung up" on the belly - near that fuel cooler.

did Brad "snatch" you out and did the tow hooks take it ok :?:

omaroo
15-02-2004, 08:44 PM
No damage Kel.

I lost the rear reflector. DANG!

The fuel cooler was well out of the way.... damn thing.

Bloody hell, looks like I missed a crazy weekend! Looks like Chris thought he was trying to drive the WJ like his old Patrol.

Is it looking good for the proper trip with the club?

omaroo
15-02-2004, 09:18 PM
G'Day Jeff :)

Yup... I think it'll do as a club trip ;)

....especially if it's wet!

And you're right... I love the Grand, but I still have to remember that I'm not in the Patrol anymore....and can't get away with beating up on the car any more without seriously expensive consequences.......
