Well its been a long time since the trip listed below. Now I think its about time we better the last trip and get over 16 Jeeps out there.
Date > Sunday 23rd May.
Rating > easy to medium (hard options for more experienced and for people wanting to watch some hardcore action)
Time > 9am at BP Yatala
This is only open to Jeep drivers, I think there are a lot of us that have met up but not all together from Brissy so come on, whos keen?
Have a look at the story below and see how much fun the last one was.

What? Are you mental? Easy? Maybe for you, I was crapping my pants the whole time, I thought we were walking home. Next time we are at the back of the pack, so that if it is too hard we can just turn around and go past it. I don't think Lance (landcruiser) is too happy with the dent in his side step either. Plus I have dust in my hair and mud on my pants and some fool in a yota almost ran me over TWICE. I am not saying that it wasn't a fun day out, it just a little harder than we were expecting...
Maybe next time we split into two subgroups those who can and those who don't wanna

Yeah, i agree JB's explanation as easy-medium is a bit...exaggerated. Especially when Area54 and a few others i spoke to thought for stockers it was boarderline ridiculous. If i had known the creek was gonna cause so much damage to the underside of my jeep i probably wouldn't have attempted it, i have some pretty bad scarring to both my driveshafts. I would consider the creek section the maximum ability of a stock Jeep therefore i would class it as medium-difficult, however more modded vehicles (and their owners) would obviously need a higher difficulty classification. but on saying that, i enjoyed it thoroughly!!! Oh well, we live and learn

andy_n
24-05-2004, 07:10 AM
Ok then, maybe with the range of vehicles it could be considered easy-extreme
Jimmyb
24-05-2004, 07:17 AM
look you cant please everyone, most of the vehicles there were 2" plus lift with good tyres, therefore its was easy to medium, there were stock vehicles and as i said at the beginning, you DID NOT have to drive what you didnt want to. choosing to be in the front of the pack leads to exploration, if you showed concern maybe you should have walked it. i dont think it is easy/medium because i drive a big truck, hardly, i rate it that because of vehicles i have seen drive through in the past and trip i have been on. if i had never seen a stock or slightly modified vehicle drive some of those tracks i would not have taken them through.
again it comes to "you cant please everyone" and its hard work taking a big group like that through. so fair go! jezz take it as good experience, we all have to learn and you learnt a hell of a lot. complaining about damage, try replacing a warn hub, front axle and uni, $700 ++ and do you see me complain, no, not cause i can afford it but more it you go out wheeling and you put yourself into an enviroment where things can happen. scares to driveshafts and skidplates, cripes, least of the worry really.
sorry i put an effort in to give everyone a good day and copping slack from it kinda makes me feel like why did i bother. i keep driving the arvo on 3 wheel drive so that everyone could enjoy the reast of the day and not stop because i broke mine, i could have done more damage but i kept drivnig instead of going home to give everyone a good arvo so in my mind thats dedication to showing everyone a good day thanks.
andy_n
24-05-2004, 07:22 AM
Thanks Jimmy, for battling on, I would have been disappointed to go home early, :D
Did you get my PM>
i had a ball - like all things you can't expect to be good from the word go. it takes practice and patience and you will make mistakes and will continue to do so even if you are really good. it just the nature of 4 wheeling that when you do make mistakes your car will take the brunt of it.
if you are infallible, go wheeling = no worries
if you make mistakes and go wheeing = expect a little persuasion to learn faster.
Jimmy i appreciated all you efforts on the day and i would rate it as medium.. hard i think is when you are going to get some sort of panel damage.
i think you're being too hard on yourself if you think why you bothered - people would have pulled out it they thought it was too hard and you did a top job continuing on 3 wheels.
I think jimmy did a great job of leading the group of that size. It was nice to see how many of you where more than happy to give it a go  And the out come was every one had a great day. :D Top work.

24-05-2004, 08:23 AM
I must thank Jimmy for the invitation to the run on Sunday - I had a ball. I witnessed some excellent driving and spotting by all concerned, even if some were rightly apprehensive of the track. Some of the tracks may have been a bit borderline for the stockers, on the other hand, the stockers should feel very proud of the trails they conquered. I think it's a tribute to the experience of Jimmy and the other spotters (sorry guys if I can't remember all your names) to get some of the lesser equipped rigs through the sections. It's not easy to plan a run for a broad range of rigs, from many levels of rig setup and driver experience. I guess in QLD a more formal range of track gradings would help, similar to other states - A-F ratings as opposed to easy, medium and hard. Some of the damage that was inflicted is something we all have experienced at one time or another, and I know it is not cheap to keep repairing things. It is one of the only negatives about going wheelin'. Some of the harder tracks done by the stockers are a real 'feather in the cap', even though it did not feel like it at the time (eyes tightly closed, white knuckles on the steering wheel, temples throbbing) turn the damage into a positive, and learn from it.
Just think, when you get the DVD, you can watch it with your non wheeling buddies and say' yeah, I went everywhere the big mod trucks went, and I'm STOCK!!!' 8)
Great day, great people, great trails, thanks JimmyB.

Thanx very much Jimmy ... you did a great job .. even though I was the most stock vehicle there .. with my city slicks on ... I'm not upset about the damage I sustained ... I agree I accepted that when I went off road.
Thanks also to Dennis for showing me the line more often then not.
Also to the snatch from the XJ that pulled me off of my bash plate at the top of the water fall section of Carnage.
And finally to Jeeps for once again plowing the road as it were

look you cant please everyone, most of the vehicles there were 2" plus lift with good tyres, therefore its was easy to medium, there were stock vehicles and as i said at the beginning, you DID NOT have to drive what you didnt want to. choosing to be in the front of the pack leads to exploration, if you showed concern maybe you should have walked it. i dont think it is easy/medium because i drive a big truck, hardly, i rate it that because of vehicles i have seen drive through in the past and trip i have been on. if i had never seen a stock or slightly modified vehicle drive some of those tracks i would not have taken them through.
again it comes to "you cant please everyone" and its hard work taking a big group like that through. so fair go! jezz take it as good experience, we all have to learn and you learnt a hell of a lot. complaining about damage, try replacing a warn hub, front axle and uni, $700 ++ and do you see me complain, no, not cause i can afford it but more it you go out wheeling and you put yourself into an enviroment where things can happen. scares to driveshafts and skidplates, cripes, least of the worry really.
sorry i put an effort in to give everyone a good day and copping slack from it kinda makes me feel like why did i bother. i keep driving the arvo on 3 wheel drive so that everyone could enjoy the reast of the day and not stop because i broke mine, i could have done more damage but i kept drivnig instead of going home to give everyone a good arvo so in my mind thats dedication to showing everyone a good day thanks.
Dude, honestly you think too much and take my babble too seriously. LIGHTEN UP THE LOT OF YA!!
It was an awesome day! I'd do it all again without a regret in world, it was sweeeet. Thanks to everyone helping to rearrange the creek bed when i was stuck. Damn i think i was the only one recovered yesterday (apart from yotas   ) All in good fun!
Can't wait for the DVD 8) Cheers

Thanks JB and every one else.
It takes a while to muster jeeping. I've had the CJ for 14 years and I'm still learning different tecnics every time we go out. (and we still make mistake, put the CJ on the side and did damige!!!.... but had a ball!!! every time we go out! And I can't blame anybody.... it happens.
Was good to meet other jeepers! and see what other do.
We love this 4wheeling stuff. absolutely love the rocks!!! Thanks Ian for the ride! (Maria)
Next time I would like a ride in the XJ, Jimmy.

I drove as car number 3 thru the first challenging rocky section and followed Cannibal with his 35's......my rig and its 33's made it thru with some help on that one big boulder....I got stuck with the rear diff....Cannibal just drove over it in front of me....you are a magican mate, right...or is it the good size rubber?
I was a bit wiser at the next challenge and got out of the car and started shifting rocks to make it more passable.....good exercise.... I loved it and it worked.
The guys behind me had it easier, right :D
Jimmy, we'll take that pic another day for the ausjeep cards.
I had some great time ! Thanks guys !

Jimmy, have you got the details for getting the DVD?
As I said before, the day was great. I see the work you do mate and some show a funny way of expressing there views, then thats there problem.
Its funny how us Jeepers will get out and offer a hand to get people thru nthe difficult spots, Dennis you love this and get the vote for the best spotter/traffic controler of the day. Jimmy get the award for best overall Organiser, no one could of got that many 4WD's together do what you did. Well done mate. We started of Jeep experience with you at Ormeau some time ago and will always follow you in there again.
JB forget what some say, all knows you did well.

Thanx JB for a great trip!!! Penguin
It was great to meet everyone!!
My mum and her partner were the ones with the Triton, and they had an excellant day!! They wish to say thanx to everyone who offered them a lift as there truck couldn't go down to the creek bed on that first leg. As they pulled over and were chucking there stuff in our truck it was great to see how many people asked if everything was okay and if they needed a hand!! That courtesy did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated.
I tended to walk a fair bit of the track, with mum and the 'little ones'. Lots of questions were asked and it was just great to be explaining how things are done. I am by no means an exellant spotter, but it was nice to be helping people past that dreaded 'rock'.
Confidence in your vehicle and the people around you make all the difference. As some of you may know I have been placed in some pretty hairy spots while driving, but knowing there is always someone around to guide you thru makes all the difference.
Denis you are magic to listen to and you deserve the ultimate respect when you are spotting someone thru a difficult situation. I learned from you and I wasn't even driving.
Once again JB is wasn't a waste of time at all. Don't sell yourself short buddy!!
Sorry we had to leg it, but we had to get a new battery for the truck and get the 'little ones' home. As it was one of the 'little ones' was loseing her voice very quickly.
Can't wait for the next trip!!
ps: Thanks for my cap Ian!! I love it.

Okay, I have the production finished, mastered and duplicated. We have them available in VHS or DVD, $15.00 plus $5.00 for postage anywhere in the country, we take all major credit cards or direct deposit. Program length 1 hour 20 minutes. Now remember, this program format is from the budget 'Freestyle' series, with no music or extensive editing, just cuts only editing to keep costs (post production and music copyright fees) and production lead times down to a minimum.
We got some really great shots of all the rigs that attended, I would like to thank JimmyB again for his invitation to the run, and all the drivers for their participation in this video, and making it the great day that it was.

We all where. Just remember Jb does a lot for his forum and its a love he likes to share. JB should not have to see some one ragging his effords. He could say stuff the lot of ya and do nothing, but there are not many forums that offer his level of service.

Just go easy.
Mate, at no point did we say we didn't enjoy ourselves.
Mate, at no time did we say JB did a terrible job, in fact he did a great job - as i wrote.
Mate, i wrote that i thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Mate, i wrote that i would happily do the day again it was heaps of fun.
Mate, i wrote that i disagreed with JB's (and others) description of the level of easeness in which the day was described. This is my opinion, and not an attack on JB, his expertise - or his ability to teach others. I was out on the previous weekend in Ormeau with 50+ stockers and i believe that the Ausjeep sunday was a walk in the park compared to the Outer Limits day. The outer limits day was much harder and more time was involved in clearing obstacles because they were more difficult.
My argument was simply that the day was IN MY OPINION a medium-difficult track FOR MY VEHICLE and MY EXPERIENCE. I would class the Outer Limits day as medium-difficult also. However on that day we still managed to (although a struggle) get a stock Bravo & Feroza through all the tracks. Obviously my opinion is different than yours. Do not take my opinion of what i classed the tracks difficulty level to be as an attack on JB because it was not.
JB, i'm sorry if i have infuriated or upset you but i still think the day was a medium-difficult experience. If it was easy we wouldn't have had to do so much rock stacking. I loved the day, it was great and i've done similar trips before with you JB and i will probably do it again but i still class it as a medium-difficult day for me - but it won't stop me doing it. 8)

Well I would like to through in my 2 cents worth. I thought the whole day went very well and I had a great time. Was good to see so many big Jeeps and meet some new Jeepers. Thanks JB for making this forum and the day happen. Not easy to organize a large group and go 4wheeling with such a mix of drivers and vehicles. I suppose we could all benifit from a list of what to expect on a Forum run, such as what channel on the radio we use, what time we will actually be departing from the meeting spot as apposed to the time we will be meeting, what one is expected to bring in terms of recovery gear, an explanation of the trip rating for thoughs new people. Recovering vehicles can also be dangerous, we probably should try to make sure people know how to do it safely. These are all just ideas to improve our jeeping experience. Maybe we need a couple of links on the forum with some reading material such as the above.
Thank You all for the great day
xjdavid
ps I think I need some 35s for the xj now.
Jimmyb
26-05-2004, 02:19 PM
Just to answer a couple of things there david, i covered them all when i made my little speech when we left regarding trip rating, radio channel etc. Most of the recoveries were supervised by myself to the safety issue also.
But yes good points on what to bring. I guess when you have articles on here in the Feature section talking about important basic recovery kits, one normally assumes people will put it together.
We tried a while back to do a recovery day, and there was a distict lack of interest in new people learning to do this.
Really if you are going to go and spend money to get someone else to train you, why not let experienced people from this forum train you for free?
okay my mate's upload some of his photo's for everyone's viewing pleasure:

Thanks jimmy for a great day. Got the adrenalin pumping on every track that i would say was a good medium to fun all the way. With ormeau its hard to rate the tracks as they change every week. Thanks to all the guys that supplied the pictures too. Thanks Denis for excellent spotting. You should change your call from Ready to Spot. We are looking forward to another run. Yeah I did 2/3's of the waterfall track bugged out just after the waterfall as I ended up sitting on my bash plate on top of it and had to be dragged off of it by one of the XJ's. Apart from the water fall the rest of the track wasn't too bad.
As per the thread in the general forum looks like I might of broken something whilst out that day ... but I'm happy to accept that it was my doing.
So all in all I had an AWESOME day. Just got to jack her up and slip some more aggressive rubber under her before I go and try silly stuff like that again.
