Back by popular demand, we have another trip to Appin. This time on Saturday 14th August. Meeting point will be Cambelltown KFC carpark, right next to Campbelltown Maccas.
Note: Don't confuse Campbelltown Maccas with Woodbine Maccas. The one we're meeting at is near the Campbelltown Catholic Club.
For those of you who haven't been, Appin is a B+ trail and is great fun! Minimum spec for vehicles is 33" tyres, 3" lift and recovery points are a must have.
Buddha, are we going to see you and the other Canberra guys up for this one?
Let me know who's interested.
a further note to which Maccas :
if you're waiting at the Macca's with a Sizzler next door ...
you're at the wrong one  ....

Might have to be Dec or Jan for the next Appin trip I lead Mark. I want to keep Sept fairly quiet to recover from Cal's and get ready for Jambo and the comps.

The track is definately not suitable for stock vehicles. There are a number of areas where you need a fair bit of clearance to get through.
Take a look at the pics from the last trip and you can make the call as to what you think.

I had 4 inches lift and 33's on the last trip there. Not saying i am the best driver in thw world, far far from it, but i am not that bad and i struggled bigtime. Got pulled up two big obsticles. Never had so much trouble on a track ever before. I have an auto too which makes it supposedly easy for climbing stuff. Oh and i hot my sill with 4 inches and 33's

I'm keen on some september action too. Will be away the weekend of 13-14 Aug, so no Appin this time round for. Damn, thats 3 outta 3 trips I have missed so far in Aug... Damn Jeep will go rusty sitting in the driveway like this!!
Yeah, I'm interested in coming along and checking out where you guys go. Coz me and Resident e thrashed around there on the weekend and got the stocker through most of it. Admittedly I had to go round some bits and scrape down others :? but I had a heap of fun :P will let you know if im in for sure **)

Yep, there are a few nice C grade trails through the area as well. If we get time after this trip, I might map some of them out on the GPS.
Dead stock  , Removed the plastic and mounted two ARB recovery hooks to the stock bar. (one where the stock loop was).
The trail's we went along were from appin, (end of the road past the pub) out to wedderburn. But since you guys seem pretty sure I wouldn't make it, I'll probably jump in wit Resident e and check out where you guys go. **)

I would like to come to if theres room. I havent meet any of you guys before and are reasonably new to the forum. But i have spent many hours playing around in appin as i am part of the wollondilly 4WD club and we are based at appin. Would be good to go wheelin with some other jeeps.....(bit sic of hearing nissan, toyota, nissan, toyota). I drive a TJ with 3" lift and 31" MTR's good recovery points front and back, and a winch. havent had any major drams at appin as yet, and i'm pretty sure i'f seen most of it. It would be good to put some faces to names and tag along if thats ok???? What time you meeting at c'town macca's :?: :?: :?:

I was taking a look at my GPS maps of the area and where we have and haven't been. See attached pic.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~benjc/forum_pics/Appin.jpg
The hilighted track is the track we normally take (B/B+ track) which is what I plan on doing on Saturday. There is also one other C grade track that I've done through the area and have mapped onto the GPS.
If you notice towards the right hand side of the map, there are a number of marked trails near where we already go. For those that have been before, I think these are the trails that are straight ahead of the right hand turn off we normally take to do the last really steep climb.
If we can get through the standard track that I've got marked in the pic above in reasonable time, and there's at least 1 vehicle who wants to continue playing, I'd like to explore some of the marked trails, and some of the other trails I've seen that run off the main road up there.
Once we've finished the main bit, I'll take everyone back to a point where they can get out, and anyone who wants to stay can continue on with us.

Much to my disgust, I'm not looking good for a start. Have been too busy with work and the likes and are still to hook up the lockers and shyte that needs to be done before the CJ see's dirt.
I'm hoping to convince a mate to come over tonight and help get it done. Will confirm tommorow.

Been away? Smooth day? Did you get rain?
maddog
15-08-2004, 06:40 PM
Smooth and enjoyable day for the most part 8)
No rain, which would have made things nice and slippery. We managed to do the track forwards, then did it backwards towards the start, and then the little C grade trail to finish things off. The trail is certainly different when you drive it the opposite way around!
Pics are currently being uploaded to the address below. Something like 236 going up before I start to cull them off :)
