Was wondering if anyone is keen to go on a run to wincbreak on sunday? Now i have my lockers in i am dead keen to drive it before it gets graded. Anyone up? I really want to go with someone who has driven it b4 if possible as i have been there but never seen anyone drive it.

I'd be up for another go. (if it hasn't already been graded?)

maddog

Lord of the Camel,

I may be in, where the firetruck is dural? Is it near hornsby?

sir_camel
23-07-2004, 09:36 PM
It's kinda near Hornsby yea. Might be better for you to head up F3 tho and take Berowra exit and go down to berowra waters and up to Winchbreak. From all reports i have so far its still all good. So far we have:

Antz (driving the pass)
Camel (driving the pass)

???

Maddog
Wiz
Saxon

If all 5 of us are gonna drive the pass it will take a while i am guessing. I believe the fallen tree that halted proceedings on the last trip has been cleared now so its possible to get to the ruins maybe. If you maybe's could confirm tomorrow sometime that'd be great.

Antz was gonna run down there today and check that it's still open, if so, I'm in. Can we start any earlier though?

Yea all reports i have heard is that it is still open. Bit worried about the rain. We can try a bit earlier i guess. Not heaps earlier for sleepy me tho. Penguin

Okay, so it's what, Mark, Antz and myself now? What time we meeting at Dural maccas?

I'll check this post before I go to bed tonight.

Antz

Winchbreak is still open as of 5pm this afternoon, looks like some work has started though, the section through the properties at the start of the track now has bitumen on it.

Will be interesting in the wet  :?:

Hey Wiz, have you determined the problem?

sir_camel
24-07-2004, 04:45 PM
OK. Thanks for checking Antz.

How does 930 at Dural Maccas sound? Hopefully it wont be pouring. You guys who have driven it before do u think its doable in the wet?

Antz
24-07-2004, 04:58 PM
I imagine the rain won't make a huge difference. The pass itself is all solid sandstone (not loose at all) and has a fair bit of grip. We shall see.

Edit: 9:30 am is ok with me.

sir_camel

OK see you guys at 9.30 tomorrow. I'm keen to check that my lockers and everything are still working today after an interesting and scary incident that resulted in a bang/snap sound from underneath.

If it's wet, I'd seriously consider not driving the pass myself. But we shall see.

Thanks for a great trip guys. 3 of us ended up driving the pass. Antz had a balance issue and my sills liked the rock more than the air. All good fun. pics up later tonight.

Hey Wooders, do you have 'BUGGA, BUGGA, BUGGA' set up as a Macro yet

Glad to hear it is still open and Sir Camel got to drive it. Don't even want to ask how you get a rear wheel that high in the air  I'm guessing your spotter was relieved afterwards

and people were laught at us when we had the jeeps on straps...

sir_camel
27-07-2004, 10:04 AM
We thought about strapping them but i went down first and didnt get too tippy so we thought it'd be ok. It was all staged on purpose for photography reasons.

Jaffas

out of interest, whats the min specs on a TJ/CJ to do winchbreak?
33s?
lockers?
balls up?

maddog
30-07-2004, 06:32 PM
33s, 4" lift and lockers front and rear would be the minimum I'd suggest on a TJ. I'm not sure how CJs go on that sort of terrain as I've only ever seen one in action once.

It's an A grade trail.

And a quick build up as its gonna get locked up soon supposedly. Is your CJ widetrack?

overlander

yes, wide track...

sir_camel
31-07-2004, 12:21 AM
that would certainly help. i agree with what maddog lists 100%

Antz
31-07-2004, 07:21 AM
I think a winch is essential too (at least one in the group)

maddog
31-07-2004, 05:05 PM
Woo I got my winch today :P Will have to find somewhere I can't drive to test it!
