View Full Version : TJ wrangler surging
hi Everyone
i have a TJ 97 model.
i have a surging problem under load when in highway use and lack of power
i have had the injectors done just recently, have finer filter fitted .pulled fuel filter out of the tank was extremley dirty went to nearest dealer who told me that they couldnt get this part.so i cleaned it as good as i could. but still lacking in power feels like im towing a trailer behind me.does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem.

are you running reg unleaded or premium or
do you have a crack in the manifold or exhaust leak somewhere
premium most of the time but also does it on regular and thier is no crack in the manifold but thinking of changeing the orignal muffler
maybe o2 sensor??
i am having my downstream one replaced under warranty due to some stuttering.

I have a 97 TJ and had a similar problem with the surging and the loss of power at times at 80k and this turned out to be a buggered O2 sensor in the exhaust system playing tricks on the computer and stuffing up the fuel delivery. New sensor - no problems! ARB in Osborne Park WA used a non-genuine sensor to save a few bucks.

:? nah I thing TJ is right..."O2" is stuffed
Jump in it and turn the key on and on three times pretty fast(leaving it on after the third time)...the engine light should start to flash and the speedo will give you any engine fault codes..
let us know what it says
we did the engine fualt code trick but no reading except for Battery was disconect for x time code.
Dertroit Demon did the "02" code come up when it had to be replaced or not.
