cmohr, what size boots are on those Renegade rims. They appear slightly wider set than I can comfortably fit under my guards. R u down to 70's.

They are a 70 profile, on my old Extreeme Sport model rims, not Rene ones. Could just be the wheels slightly turned, and the wideangle lens I used to take the pics that make them look like they hang out, but, they sit well under the guards.
I can report they are very nice.

They do look good. I said Rene rims as they are the same rims as my 03 Rene.

When I saw the spare on the roof rack I thought "Sensible man, he's carrying two spares", but then saw that it had been taken off the back door.
What do you do when going shopping? Lots of car parks you won't get into whith all that on the roof.
Why take it off the door? I know 02KJ has problems with cracking mounts, but as far as I know it isn't a common problem.
And are you using a ball hitch to tow on the Cape run? Or have you got a better articulating one like the Highlander?
KyJelly
22-09-2011, 08:08 AM
Ball hitch, & if you use the tongue that clears the rear hanging spare your departure angles are all but gone....we tested that already, so im using a much shorter tow hitch now & vastly improved departure angle :p
And theres bugger all shopping centeres were im going.....with a pop top on back as well.......;)
Pipeliner
22-09-2011, 12:34 PM
I would be more concerned with twist than with departure/rampover angle. If the trailer rolls (don't laugh, it has happened) you don't want it capable of applying enough torque on the hitch to roll the towing vehicle as well. That's why most people towing in off-road conditions fit specialised off-road hitches (Tregg, Highlander, OzHitch, DO35, etc).
I'm sure there aren't many shopping centres up there - does that mean the spare goes back on the door when you get home?
I would have to agree with Pipes regarding the tow hitch and just add that I would keep an eye on those rear mud flaps...you might find them tear off or rip at those lengths....in any event have a great time:)
KJ_andy
22-09-2011, 01:27 PM
I have a hyland hitch now but have to say I was able to tow my last camper to a lot of places on the std ball, including the bungle bungles. Those rear long mudflaps were a pain though. When the KJ was new I got the dealer to replace them with the 02 rear mud flaps (real shorties) I had torn mine after a day in the mud and asked if they risked the wheel arches as they are plastic. The dealer mumbled about reg codes but came up with the short mudflaps. No probs since.
Pipeliner
22-09-2011, 02:49 PM
ADRs state that the rear mudflaps must be not more than 300mm from the ground for a vehicle designed to go offroad, and 200mm in all other cases.
KyJelly
22-09-2011, 03:39 PM
Mudflaps are ugly....you only tear'm off going backwards........so you,d best check that there clear when your following your bum.......;)
Mate if im going anywere that would cause a poptop to roll over i deserve it :D
& yes the wheel is going back onto the rear soon as i get home, & the front bar & the 20's.....actualy i'll try sell the whole box'n'dice, & build another urban 4X4.

Thanks Carl! Nah fitted stu's left here in Dandenong. Rims cost me $120ea in the States. Sold my 265 75 16 procomps as I didn't want to spend on doing diff gears etc and bought these new 255 70 16 m/t cooper stt's. They have identical tread to the pro comp extreme mud terrains, and I dont have to re gear.

JCROffroad dont ship to Australia. I had to get them to bring it to my business partners shipping yard in California then I get it landed here for free through his boat importing business. Had a quote to get them made up here in Melbourne for me and it was like $900!!!! Im happy with $350 landed.

I thought it was because they are actually different tyres to ones you were originally putting on, no longer the 265/75/16 Procomps and now the original suggested and recommended size of 255/70/16's??
It is certainly looking Good premhk, that green looks great with all the black extras.
Those Sliders look very good, I esp like the extra sil support in behind, no other slider I've seen for the KJ has that, would add a lot of extra strength. I also prefer the slight up angle the outer bars have over the flat Rocklizard ones. I was actually thinking of cutting my RockLizards and rewelding them like that myself.
Josh you weld don't You???

Group buy!!! will you sell them to KJ members at that price??!! Thats cheap, wonder what thickness steel etc... You must work for $10 an hour lol. Unless you can whip them up in 3 hours....! Most fabricators charge at least $80-$100 an hour. The material alone must be around $100. I never paid $900 like I said, had them landed for $350.
JCR sliders proved stronger than Lizards according to trial and tested reports from the States. Will see how they perform when I hit the Vic High country. This pretty much sums up why they are better than the rest. http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=KJSL3&Category_Code=KJSL
The 265 75 procomps I sold as I made big profit on them so I opted for the cooper stt mud terrains as I didnt have to spend big on the diff gears other uneccessary mods to have them work. As Im learning about 4wding, the difference in the mud would make no difference in those two tyre sizes. But a 30" tyre versus 33+" tyre would.

Folks just remember what Wooders started this thread for: KJ photo posting. Once a discussion starts on wheel options, sliders, bumpers etc it should really move to it's own thread - and this helps others find that topic (not having it buried in the Pics thread).

Greendog, after carefully checking your pics, I'm happy to be able to tell you the reason u got stuck wasnt because of the deceptively innocent looking patch u drove into,......it had more to do with your light bar damaging the aerodynamics of your KJ. I believe the only solution, is to remove it quickly and send it far far away,....like to Darwin for instance...............I even know a PO Box set up specifically for these deliveries....

Little bit of scrubbing at full lock and up in the rear arches at full compression. Haven't touched the pinch weld but rubs on the front sway bar and inner guards.

Im the least of ther're worries here.... trust me there are some real unsafe 4x4 kick'en round Newcastle area, They tend to target the Auzzie car boys more (Holden and Ford fans trying to race each other for ......... what ever they race for, Plus we get road worthies every year in NSW, I guess they think if it passed than it must be legal? ........ Most of us driving round in modified 4wds are actually driving defective vehicles if you apply the full letter of the law - thankfully the police and traffic inspectors have better things to do than pull us all over and get the tape measures out. Just wait until the gov't brings in on-the-spot fines for oversize tyres etc to raise revenue!

Yes there was at least one that I know of, I believe it was built in Victoria but later popped up for sale in Qld. No idea what became of it but it is not active on AJOR as far as I know. It may have encountered registration problems ie roadworthiness. I recall one conversion inj the USA that rolled at highspeed, failing a lane change test. IMHO if you want an SFA buy a Wrangler.

I believe there are no SFA KJs currently on the road now and there only were ever two made to my knowledge (in Australia) and only one of those actually got registered. I know one of them showed up for sale in Qld a while back.
If anyone on AJOR knows the owner/s get them to log in here and tell us what's going on with them.
A while ago, maybe two years back, Wooder's garage was looking a Volunteer vehicle for a conversion but you would need some serious coin to pay for it. With the recent changes to engineering process in NSW and the new regs I doubt they could ever get on the road in NSW.
And really, why take a great all-rounder and touring machine like the KJ and try and make it into an uncomfortable, ill-handling, white-elephant? If that's what you want just, sell your KJ, buy a TJ or JK, it will work out cheaper.

Glen wasn't saying that the JK is an elephant, just that it was pointless trying to make a KJ into a JK. They are two very different vehicles, bought for different purposes.
I remember when I bought my current KJ in 2007, the salesman tried to tell me that the JK (which had just come out) would be the Jeep bought by people who had previously bought KJ's: I told him he was dreaming as they appeal to totally different buyers.

I have the same rims. Took me 6 months to find a replacement when I cracked one while wheeling. Hard to find is an understatement.

I've used my old tyres 235/70 and they haven't even gone close to rubbing . Where the steelies I had rubbed off road and turning full circle . I could go to 245 even on these rims

Funny Story, Other night I was trying to get a park at Chermside Shopping Centre, quite an effort usually, I saw a cars reverse lights come on and I turned into the aisle to drive down to wait, as I did a Commodore came zooming down from the other direction with its indicator on It pulled up really close, and actually blocked the car trying to reverse out of the park (the car had to actually go back in and reverse out the other way (effectively blocking me) the car had no sooner reversed out when the Commodore tried to park (again blocking the car trying to leave) by trying to park before the leaving car could drive away........... The Commodore then only drove halfway in, then out , then in a bit more, then back out, sat there for a minute (the whole time blocking the leaving car between me and it) then, it reversed back out, squealing tyres down the lane in reverse far far too fast almost backing into traffic driving along the main access ways in the car park (many horns were heard), the little car that was trying to leave the whole time finally was able to leave. I put my indicator on and pulled easily into the car park........
See Pic..

Small Car Only spots are fantastic, i once had a pretentious woman in bondi loose her lolly at me for parking in a small car only spot. She did happen to be driving a Smart Car (ugly tiny thing). Went off telling me that these spots are designed because they are too small for a big car like mine. I mean just because i'm a bit taller than your average small car doesn't mean length and width wise i'm not small. She went about abusing me for 5 mins while i was getting stuff out of the back to take into stores.
I swear i wasnt winding her up too much though :D

Here are the latest pics of my car. My car had a visit to Stu's while I was up in Brisbane this week.
I now have the Airflow Snorkel, TJM Bullbar, and the GDE Eco Tune.
The car is running great and I can definitely notice the difference with even just the Eco Tune.
