Just bought ARB Air Locker for Dana 30 (Thanks Itchy!). Whats the best way to get Air to it?
Option 1 is of course a compressor - but do I need it? My Jeeps just a weekend warrior.
Can I get away with a large air tank (roll bar) and pump it up before I leave? How far will this get me?
Considering all options... Who's done it??

That may work, but over any reasonable length of time you will run out of air.

The ARB has a high pressure about 85 lbs (???) compared to the Rubicon which is about 5. The ARB's do have leaks after a while, so I think to do this you would want a cheap 12v compressor to top it up. The base model ARB compressor (lockers only) is not very expensive and takes very little space.

The down side to the stored air without a compressor is if you damage an air line you are stuffed.

Do you ever air down your tires ? I have seen ARB's run from CO2 tanks which do store a lot more volume that air tanks. However you would need to regulate the pressure.

Thanks, I think I will set up a little compressor to top up the roll bar. I know there'll be one time that I run out of air and I really want it!! I appreciate your comments. Cheers, Cambo

I sort of went down that route with my GU comp truck. I had an ARB compressor providing air for my lockers and topping up the tanks of stored air. I was using the rollbar and a separate tank under the tray to hold air.

I had my rollbar custom made and pressure tested to make sure that it could hold the air safely at pressure. Is it an existing rollbar or a new build that you are looking at storing the air in?

I also made up a little connection piece that had a male quick release on one end and a normal tyre valve on the other (all connections and hosing available from someone like Total Tools or All Tools - ie one of the more specialist hardware stores). This allowed me to use my workshop compressor at home to bring the whole system up to pressure before heading out. You would be surprised at how long it will take for an ARB to bring everything up to pressure!

Thanks mate - that's exactly what I had in mind...
I'll be making up a roll bar from scratch. I love the idea of pumping it up before heading off.
