Hey,

I bought a Jeep some months ago now, from a guy in Sydney who also put me on to this site which I've been ghosting for a month or so now and thought I should probably introduce myself.

My names Luke, my Jeep is a black '99 TJ with a 1"BL and 2.5"SL, running 33" x 12.5 Wrangler MTR's,

I've got a question though, the gear ratios are very high - I'll change out of 3rd somewhere between 60 and 80kph, and in 5th I'll actually lose speed going up the slightest of hills, is there a reason the gears are set up like this?

Cheers for any advice in advance, I'll try to post a pic too..

Hi there Luke :D

The ratios are set up for the original size tyres on your TJ which are 29" compared to the 33" which you are trying to push around.

Hi Luke,

Yep, those ratios are shocking. Time to save some $$ and get a set of 4.56 (excellent for 33's) ratios.

On a side note, there is a Jeep club in the ACT, ACT JeepTrAction. If you are interested in having a look, go to www.actjeeptraction.com. We have social as well as 4WD outings and cater for all levels of experience.

Hope to see you on the trails (or even better at a club meeting :) )

Welcome Luke - with daylight savings starting new week, the club will be heading out every tuesday night into the mountains for some driving. Leave McDonalds Weston 6 for 6:20. Come out for a drive with us sometime. Always good to see some new Jeeping blood.
Change to 4.56 ratios will be the best change you ever make on your car!!!
