ay guys,
Yes I'm still going up for the day, its a great track..
Its still open guys, I've confirmed this with National Parks.
How far from sydney? umm lets check my book.
Depending where everyone's coming from the offical track is Wisemans Ferry to Wollombi or Putty Rd.
Distance from Sydney is 70km.
I'm up in Hornsby, so its like a 30 minute drive up to Wisemans Ferry.
Damn I'm doing the Yengo + Putty forest trek on the 24/25th...
Let us know how it goes.

Will do mate, might have to join you for a 2nd adventure :)
AussieCJ7, there are additional tracks off the main yengo trails which are locked, however there are arranged days now n then where a group can access the tracks which are usually locked as a ranger take you through etc.

Mate we're going past wollombi to the other end of hte howes track which brings you out onto Putty Rd up near the Hunter region. This part of the track is by far the best part.
You basically start that trail around the Mt Simspon area off George Downs Dr. You come out onto that road from the Wiseman ferry part, somewhere around Bucketty... not sure on spelling.
Do you have gps? I might be able to give you the navigation points.
I'll try and scan a map of the tracks tomorrow at work n post it up.

Unless something unexpected happens at work, count me in on this little outing sounds like a good drive. I have to take it easy a bit as I can't disconnect at the moment due to rubbing, that should be fixed soon.

Days Plan is:
Begin at Wisemans Ferry
Travel up to St Albans then onto Mongo Camping Area, this track ends at Bucketty Historic Precinct (Could be a the place to meet up for anyone not wanting to do the Wiseman Ferry part.
We then travel a short distance and then exit onto Mt Simpson Trail, head up to Finchley trig, maybe detour to Wollombi and then head back along the Yango Track/Howes Vally Trail, eventually finishing on other side (Putty Rd)

hey Pezz,
Mate what brand GPS you have? If you have a navman, I can email you my file with all the waypoints in.
Mate we plan on leaving Hornsby around 8 - 8:30, think it takes bout 30 - 40 min to get to Wisemans Ferry.
I reckon Wisemans to Bucketty would be 1 hr or so. So I'd guess somewhere around 10 - 10:30. Problem is there is no mobile coverage for past Wisemans Ferry I think.

Probably easier to decide what UHF channel you guys will be so others can try and call you.

will i need extra fuel?is there much low ranging?

Ay Pezz sounds good to me mate. At Wisemans there is a Servo as you come down into Wisemans. There is also a Post Office and opposite is Wisemans Pub. We could meet up there, then we just go down the hill to the Ferry. I've thought of taking some extra fuel just in case, but I think you'd be right if you had a full tank at wisemans.
There is a little bit of low ranging down a few steep bits, you could get away without the 33's though, up to you.... Just don't forget drinks, food etc. :)
Also check your PM you should have one from me.
Lets saw we meet at Wisemans at the Servo between 8:00 and 8:30am....

Where abouts is Awaba State Forest?
Did you guys kick on 4wd'n for a couple more hours?
