On road, off road, and would you buy it again? Matty ducati 18-04-2007, 02:23 PM Yes they have been quiet, if i owned one the world would here about it! Brettski 18-04-2007, 05:35 PM I'll tell you once I pick mine up this afternoon. B. bismark 18-04-2007, 05:50 PM Had my Test drive today on the 2Door CRD Renegade, will pick the Car up on friday Acceleration from the CRD starts after 2000/2200 RPM not to good .... Access to back only for kids and Fit People (cannot be obese). Diesel is quite, steering and breaks are good, quality seemed to be much better than the old one indicator on left hand of steering Column can't wait to get back on to the 4x4 tracks. Brettski 18-04-2007, 10:13 PM Picked up my 2 door Rubicon early this evening. Didn't want to stop driving it. All up, an excellent car when compared to the TJ (which I drove for a weekend last year) and (obviously) my 27 year old FJ40. Engine is good - obviously not quite as torquey as the TJ 4.0 litre motor but at higher revs goes much better. Handling is great. Suspension is very good - back end doesn't bounce around like the TJ did. I'll post some longer thoughts later but for now I'm impressed and very happy. B. JKohn 18-04-2007, 10:16 PM Picked up my 2 door Rubicon early this evening. I'm sooooo jealous!!! Pics please!! Bert 18-04-2007, 11:27 PM Well they have been out for a short while now so just wanted to hear the opinions of those that do own a JK. On road, off road, and would you buy it again? I've had mine a couple of weeks now and completly love it! I can't really fault it on much, only thing that is of concern to me is the plastic quality on the passenger side dash. Havent taken it off road yet, but I'm sure when I do it will perform fantasticly! Would definatley buy one again. :) Bert 18-04-2007, 11:29 PM Picked up my 2 door Rubicon early this evening. Brettski - One thing that always dissappointed me with my TJ was that it was so torquey at the low end, but on long trips it lost that top end speed when I got over 100km/h. Good to hear it now performs better at the top end, but does it still have enough grunt to perform as well off-road? I'm getting a rubi with 4.10 ratios, but I'm chucking on 35's, and will be doing a lot of driving in heavy sand. Loosing low end torque will kill me. Brettski 19-04-2007, 08:57 AM Brettski - One thing that always dissappointed me with my TJ was that it was so torquey at the low end, but on long trips it lost that top end speed when I got over 100km/h. Good to hear it now performs better at the top end, but does it still have enough grunt to perform as well off-road? Well, I was sitting on the freeway last night in 6th gear at 100 km/h and it accelerated from there quite happily - not neck-snapping but still good. On the freeway with the roof on it was so quiet inside it was amazing. And the engine is soooo smooth and quiet. I almost spent the whole night driving around. ;-) It'll be a few weeks before I get to take it off-road so that will be interesting. B. Sonik 19-04-2007, 11:49 AM Has anyone had a JK offroad? And does it have the grunt when you need it - like the TJ? Brettski 19-04-2007, 11:07 PM Ok. Couldn't get any good photos because it was dark when I got home (have to do them on the weekend). But for those that are desperate... http://www.brettski.net/Jeep/DSC01215.JPG http://www.brettski.net/Jeep/DSC01216.JPG Second photo is a bit blurry because I took it without the flash... Are those Rubi wheels 16 or 17 inch? They look smaller than the ones in the states but maybe that's because they are minus the MTRs they get. Andrew Brettski 20-04-2007, 10:01 AM I thought you were getting a white one??? Nice! Nah, definitely black. Sure, it shows the dirt and scratches more but I didn't really like any of the other colours... Are those Rubi wheels 16 or 17 inch? Shetani 20-04-2007, 01:17 PM indicator on left hand of steering Column . Seriously, over a production run how much would it cost to produce an indicator/wiper harness for RHD markets so you're not deciding between keeping the indicator on or selecting the right gear (for manuals)? 50 bucks? My Discovery was the same and that was from a RHD manufacturer, but aiming it at a LHD market (the US). That's a niggle, but it's good to hear you guys a pretty happy - ya lucky buggers! Mike Brettski 21-04-2007, 07:32 PM Well, it was a great day in Perth today and I couldn't resist folding the roof down. The car continues to impress. Some photos: http://www.brettski.net/Jeep/DSC01218.JPG http://www.brettski.net/Jeep/DSC01219.JPG http://www.brettski.net/Jeep/DSC01220.JPG (Again - not so good for you dialup people - big photos...) There are a couple of small annoyances with the car. There is a plastic cap that covers the (I guess) service interface for the computer. I keep kicking it off when I move my foot from the accelerator to the brake and back. I noticed this when I test drove the Unlimited... So, it's come off and it's staying off. ;-) The glove box, centre console and door pockets aren't big enough for the normal A4-sized street directory. Just means I'll have to get some kind of GPS navigation unit. Damn... :) And, as everyone has pointed out, the soft-top windows are hell easy to scratch. I even stored mine nicely in some very soft material and somehow managed to slightly scratch the rear. Oh well. It's going to happen... Other than that, I continue to be very pleased. Fuel economy is surprisingly good. I've done 250-odd kilometres and the trivia display tells me I've got about another 240 to go before the tank is empty. More driving tomorrow. Woohoo! Nice one mate. Back in 2001, I picked up my 2nd TJ late on a Friday night from the dealers, 7am Saturday morning I went down to Cunungra for some stocko wheeling action, just to see how it went !! :P! bismark 22-04-2007, 04:34 PM Just back from 4x4 CityView park the car performed great on all main tracks did not run on any black tracks only green and blue. Brettski 22-04-2007, 06:39 PM Did some more driving today - got to 410 kilometres before the low fuel light came on and the trivia display said I had 75 to empty. Great to see you in the thick of it so early in ownership :P! bismark 23-04-2007, 04:27 PM For all your JK wrangler CRD fans has anybody read the operating manual page 108 ( Turbocharger Cool Down ) it sugest you need from 1-5 min ideling time before turning of the engine. Where is the turbo delay switch ??? palla 06-05-2007, 07:13 PM It is in the exact same position as it is in the KJ. Either sit there for 1-5 mins or behind the counter at your favourite 4by shop. Changed the horrible standard tyres straight away for 265/75r16. Use the jeep mainly as a kids taxi to and from school around 40Kms a day. The engine has always averaged 13.5/100 and if I drive like a Granny I can get it down to 11.5-12.5/100.I have found using fifth gear at 60-70 kms improves things marginally. Had it up the coast in some pretty soft sand that needed 16psi in my Landrover Discovery Td5 and also in my brothers 4.2 diesel patrol, no worries in the jeep 35 psi and fourth gear low range and it would actually accelerate without a change down from 20kms/hr up effortlessly. My Td5 Disco was good but this jeep felt way better in both its engine and suspension . Hope this helps . taffylad 15-07-2007, 04:39 PM had my jk for 4 weeks now and love it more and more every day, it grows on you like no other car... i've always loved wranglers but never had the money or opportunity to own one. now that i do now have one i can say that it's lived up to all my expectations .. had the top down this weekend and what can i say ... it's like no other car in the way it puts a smile on your face Devilish 16-07-2007, 05:55 PM I had a TJ a few years ago, and lookin at the TK as an option for a new car. I was on here too, some some would be glad to see me back, others not so! haha a few quezzies: Whats the fuel economy like on the diesel model? Does the rubicon have lifted suspension as previous models? I sat in the new TK a few days ago and being 6'8'' there aint as much room as the old TK... but I am sure I can manage!!. Tasar 16-07-2007, 08:26 PM hey devil man - not long away they are JK's mate Robbo posted fuel on the diesel at around 10l per 100k and the petrols are getting 13l per 100k But that will depend on lots of things ;) Devilish 16-07-2007, 08:53 PM jk... i jeep thinking of the "TK" name they gave it when it was on a concept a few years ago... my bad! Brettski 17-07-2007, 08:53 AM Does the rubicon have lifted suspension as previous models? Nope, not lifted. It has the same springs but (apparently) different shocks. B. DownSouth 17-07-2007, 10:36 AM Hello Jeep people. Having had G wagon,Prados, Pajeros, L200 4wds over the years I have just bought my first Jeep. 4 door auto JK. Almost bough the Commander but when I saw the JK I couldnt help my self. My wife hates it and thinks its a tonka toy with break away plastic bits:roll: She is still burning over not getting a new Prado or Commander. Bottom line is I love it. the more I drive the more I like it. Im still getting used to the shifting into low range with an auto, a bit agricultural but I will learn to use it properly. I like to tow my boat along the beach and launch from the sand. Im also going to use it for my Shark bay and steep point trips. It seems very thirsty on fuel but I guess thats Jeep from what I can work out. Havnt had the top off yet, Ill wait a few weeks and put the soft top on. I think Ill get bigger tires on the same rims and look at at a 50mm lift. other than that so far so good. Please excuse my ignorance if I ask a few dumb questions as I work things out. Cheers John JKohn 17-07-2007, 11:41 AM Hey John, Congrats on the purchase - your wife will learn to love it!! :D Enjoy! Devilish 17-07-2007, 03:07 PM I took a Unlimited Auto for a spin today... I like his it handled but everything seems to be very stuff... accelerator, steering, brakes, suspension... I am thinking these will wear in a bit because my old TJ from 2003 was verey loose in those area's... The bloke said the petrol model does 13l /100km's in the city... we drove around for 10 mins driving like a granny it did 14, then when i even attempted to touch the accelerator it shot up to 16!! haha pretty much the same as my old jeep.... I really liked the unlimited!!! basically because it had a lot of space in the back. But I definately want to take a manual for a spin before I buy... by the way, anyone want to buy a 2006 yamaha FZ-1 and help me buy my jeep quicker??? haha DownSouth 17-07-2007, 11:19 PM I took a Unlimited Auto for a spin today... I like his it handled but everything seems to be very stuff... I ordered a Manual, When it arrived the gears wouldnt work properly, The dealer pulled out the gear box and discovered the clutch pack had collapsed and the pressure plate was not returning after the thrust bearing was applied. I refused delivery as I was not happy with getting a new car with such a major problem on pre delivery. I was able to switch to an automatic as this car had been cancelled by the client in favour of a Commander. Im happy I got the auto as it ended up. I found the 4wd selection very stiff, not sure if this is normal. The manual demo I drove had a vibration through the drive train which was pronounced at the end of the gear lever. The auto i took delivery of did not have this problem. Im also getting wind noise at the base of the windscreen????? Again I dont know if this is normal. I was getting 14ltrs per 100 klm for the first few days. Ive done 1600 klm and I can get 12.9 at the moment on a long flat drive at 100 to 110klm per hour. Cant wait to upgrade the tires and so on but for now Its normal running. http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=20684&stc=1&d=1184681931 Runningman 18-07-2007, 11:10 AM I test drove both the TD in 2 door and the V6 petrol in 4door rubicon on the weekend and had the same vibration in the manual when teh clutch was right in. Felt strange. Also, no footrest! And the angle for the clutch foot left me with a sore foreleg after 10mins of test driving. The rubicon handles nicely, but the V6 wasa bit sluggish and noisy when rev hard (was comparing to my 3.4L V6 Hilux that I want to trade out of!). The diesel was ok, quiet when revving. Also disappointed that the Rubicon doesnt come with a TD, will have to wait and see, wouldve probably bought one then and there if they had diesels!! Also, anybody looked into the dual bettery problem?? No room in the engine bay for a 2nd battery, dont fancy having to buy an expensive OPTIMA or similar if I have to stick it in the back of the car!! Takes up valuable storage space! Apart from that, the ride in both was good. Dave 18-07-2007, 11:33 AM My CRD came with a yellow top optima and has plenty of space in the engine bay. Dave Big Unit 18-07-2007, 11:34 AM Hi all. I have never owned a Jeep before or a 4WD. Picked up my Unlimited Renegade pack CRD manual, 2 days ago and have just stopped driving. This Jeep is great and my wife and kids love it. Everything works properly, no glitches with gearbox or motor, no rattles or abnormal noises of any kind. Have a bit of wind noise at 120-130km/h through the bottom of the front windscreen but it is not annoying. I am glad I chose to purchase this vehicle Runningman 18-07-2007, 12:17 PM My CRD came with a yellow top optima and has plenty of space in the engine bay. Dave Really? Where is the room? I couldnt find any spare space when I had a look at the 2 and 4 door. Cheers Devilish 18-07-2007, 04:09 PM I found the auto to gear down too quick when letting off the accelerator so it's like ur constantly breaking. Probably a good thing for offroad... just ticked me off... From reading some of the threads around here, when I am finally ready to buy, there won't be any around!!! I use 2nd gear to take off and change straight to 4th and I have been recently starting in 3rd gear on slight slopes !! saves time changing gears (its only a clutch !! ). TassieMav 23-09-2007, 08:29 AM Well, we took the JK out for it's first test offroad yesterday (ours is a CRD Manual Unlimited with 33" Tyres) and just thought I would share some impressions. If you are attached to your pretty moulded rear mudflaps, don't take it offroad. Ours lasted only an hour and a half in the mud and rocks. They came home in the boot. Why would they make a car with excellent dif clearance but then have the mid mounted fuel tank sitting lower than the dif's? Doesn't make too much sence. We can't wait for the Terraflex Budget Boost to arrive as we dragged the Bash Plate to buggery (it's looking decidedly second hand after one trip). For any mud/rocks sort of offroad, 2" lift is essential. For some reason, the side steps came out unscathed! Low range in the CRD, bloody awesome! The throttle adjustment which happens when you lock it into 4L is awesome (but takes a little to get used to, almost like driving on a flat tyre). It just crawls down hills and idles up them. A little Turbo Lag is apparant up hills from low rev's but nothing to worry about. The traction control get's annoying on rough dirt roads, keeps cutting in on corregated corners (granted, being taken at high speed). The Partial Off Mode fixed this really well but something to be held in mind. Overall, with a 2" lift and 33" tyres, it's going to be a weapon! :) wranglertj 23-09-2007, 09:30 PM picked up my silver rubicon unlimited 3 weeks ago and it is fantastic!!!! she's got the looks to kill and a great machine off-road. Excellent front flex with sway bar disconnected but bit dissapointed with rear flex. That will be solved soon with the rancho 4 inch lift kit. Overall a bloody good car, my only gripe is no electric mirrors. (crazy on a car this size but that is a minor concern only) fuel economy around city have been averaging 14 litres to the 100 which is not bad for a big fourby i thought. Devilish 24-09-2007, 05:54 PM my only gripe is no electric mirrors. (crazy on a car this size but that is a minor concern only) . Just shows ur too small... I'm just over 2 metres tall and I have no problems leaning over to adjust my left hand mirror... haha!! Not that I have my JK yet... I did it on the demo! odelay 24-09-2007, 06:43 PM Mirrors don't bother me, I only had to adjust them once. And their field of view is awsome, theyre twice the size of the mirrors on anything else I've driven. By wife did complain about lack of mirrors though, you know the kind they have behind the sunvisors on other cars. I've had mine a week and I love it. The ride is a lot better than I thought it would be, the stereo is insane, and the ARB bar looks great. I am always looking foward to driving somewhere. The only improvement would be if they made the head rests out of what they made the dash from and the dash what they made the headrests from. Oh, and I am sick of the mini Hummer remark. Tiny 03-10-2007, 10:28 AM i have owned landcruisers a ford courier and a nissan parthfinder and i must say that the JK is the best i have ever owned it handles on road and off and is great in the soft sand cant wait to get a bar on the front because i did take it easy for a while but eventualy i did put some dents on the underside of that big front bumper but it wouldnt be a 4wd if we didnt get some dents and scratches would it micq 03-10-2007, 10:55 AM Done 3500 k's now .Just did 2250 K trip [towed boat for 1300 k's] & averaged 13 lts/100 k's.Only problems so far, battery collapsed & I couldn't get a new one in Rockhampton & engin temp went up once [wasn't towing boat at the time] wallaby 03-10-2007, 11:28 AM Hi all. had the JK Rubicon v6 now for about 6 weeks and have done about 13000 which included a return trip Melb - Perth - Melb pulling a small rear door pop top c'van. Fuel consumption was crap (about 5km/litre) but admittedly that was with the c'van and in a head wind (there and back) @100km/hr roughly. Uncoupled and @100 km /hr managed about 8.5km/litre which is pretty good considering other 4bies do a lot worse. No problem pulling the van - able to pass many a gasping toyota and nissan diesel, including up hill. I think I sold about 6 JKs to these poor drivers along the eay. Pretty comfortable ride although the suspension on the Rubicon seems unnecessarily stiff. It would have been letter to have left it the same as on the standard Unlimited. Ergonomics are pretty poor: seat sqwab too high so that it cuts into the back of the thighs; console sticks out too far and not enough room between light stalk, air vents, console side and knee etc. Brakes work like hell!! Need to really work the gears when towing and not so much otherwise. Easy to forget that 5th and 6th are really overdrives. Since tuning, the beats seems to have a few moire herbs ? do they re-programme the engine management system or something or is it just my imagination? Air conditioner is real sweet. What a gutsy machine - I've still got to take her out in the rough stuff. Cheers JKfan 17-10-2007, 06:38 AM Have just returned from a great trip. Now have 8000km on the clock (6000km trip in three weeks). I have an unlimited CRD manual with the hard top. Swapped my tyres ASAP for 265/75/16 BFG/AT No other mods(local ARB could not supply a front bar). New oil and filter at 1600km.The JK was pretty much fully loaded for my trip and driving has been50:50 gravel and sand tracks: bitumen with a small ammount of low range stuff. Overall Economy 11.7l/100km which is OK and seems be a little better lately. (I adjusted for bigger tyres) Things I love. The diesel motor is lovely. pulls like a train. Great A/C, stereo, good looking truck. The freedom top in low range the car felt controlled with ESP off and limited slip was good enough to get me around Skytrek very comfortably. Things I did not initially like felt the suspension was a bit too firm however after loading up it was great especially with unexpected rough stuff at speed, was glad it was there. felt that the traction control cut in too early at times on the gravel even on partial mode and takes away some of the driving enjoyment. An emu ducked out of nowhere on a gravel road and I stamped on the brakes. ABS worked well and as the car began to slide the ESP cut in and kept the car straight. I was impressed and I missed a collision by a few feet. It could of stuffed my holiday up and without the ABS/ESP i would have collected it for sure. After my experience they are both fine. Minor gripes Plastics, lack of footrest and not a lot of space in the footwell, lack of lumbar support in the seats Sump/ transmission plate?? Major gripes The exhaust hangs pretty low and will be the first thing to get dinged . Picked up a couple of tourists in a broken down rental landcruiser and they were a little cramped in the back seats, but when I hit a bump the girl had a nasty knock on the roll bar Other gripe is that IMO the manual diesel does not need to be doing 2600 rpm at 110km/h. Most people who buy them want to tour and this is no help for economy. Spent a bit of time today looking at the different gearing/ transmission combinations as I would consider re-gearing 10-15% lower if possible. In fact each is unique. Might as well share the info but DYODD. Model Crawl ratio low 1 Top gear petrol manual 38.9 2.79 petrol auto 37.4 2.84 CRD manual 49.7 3.44 CRD auto 33.5 2.75 Rubi manual 74.9 3.44 Rubi auto 47.7 2.74 Maybe DC meant to put the 3.21 in the diesel manual? Whilst on the subject of gears I saw somewhere that DC has planned mid-range 3.83 gearing as an option for the 2008 model. IMO probably with good reason as the petrol motor is a little down on performance in comparsion to its competitors and some are finding performance is not what they expect with larger tyres. For those considering buying these things are worth considering in terms of what you want to do/ how much cash you have for lifts/ tyres/ gears. If I wanted a daily driver/weekend warrior the Rubi would be great value and a lot of fun. For economy and touring the diesel auto would be he best. With a 6K price tag it is not great value. If you are going to tradein in 3-5 years probably the petrol. Anyway that my 2 cents. Overall I really love my JK and we had a great trip. Canberra to adelaide to innamincka and return. Will post some pics when I get hold of them. My first thought is you ask what the build date is on your manual CRD. It my be possible that 4.1 ratios have been put in earlier builds. The jeep australia website has no information for the ratio on the manual diesel. You can only imagine how low my first low is then. Have only used it twice. Fasteye 19-10-2007, 05:57 PM My manual CRD jk has about 7000kms on the clock and around town it usually drinks around the 10ltr mark thats as long as you stay under 2500rpm. Gear ratio update Went into my dealer today and asked if he had a recent CRD manual as I thought mine was geared too high and someone else had said that they were running much lower. We took his for a spin and sure enough it was running around 2100 at 110kph. We took mine for a spin and he was surprised to see it running at 2600. Said he will look into it and am sure he will as he a good salesguy. According to http://scirocco.org/gears/ the CRD maunual would be running 2033 with 3.21 2346 with 3.73 2596 with 4.11(mine) I went back to jeep.com.au and for comparison CRD auto 4.1 ratio/0.67 5th 2071rpm petrol manual 3.21 /0.84 6th 2033 petrol auto 4.1/0.69 4th 2133 1. Either I have a one off or there a number of others the same. 2. I think the more recent CRD manuals most likely have 3.21's 3. There is no way the advertised fuel economy is acheivable in mine anyway 4. Somewhere along the line someone at Chrsyler knew this and a switch was made in the factory and IMO has nothing to do with the 2008 model. If so-inform the customers - not so far. Will keep you posted Gojeep 21-10-2007, 06:50 PM Man I would be so happy to get 4.11's by mistake if I get one. The reason being is that I have every intention of running taller tyres which bring the revs straight back down again. I am even thinking of waiting for a Rubicon version in a diesel like they are now selling in Europe to save the costs of a diff ratio change. Why don't you just fit taller tyres or are you never going to go offroad where you need any extra clearance?? Dave 21-10-2007, 07:36 PM I thought all CRD's come with 4.11? The CRD auto is geared 20% lower so "theoretically" would have to go to something around 37's to restore ratios, which would be big and expensive. As Nigel pointed out the 3.73's are coming out in 2008 in the US. That would be a fair bit higher and keep most people like yourself happy. Wonder whether OZ will get the option. I am happy to run 32's and probably an OME 2 inch lift when it's available, while under warranty. TassieMav 22-10-2007, 08:35 AM Ok Brillient opportunity for a comparison between our new JK and the vehicle it replaced (GQ Patrol). My club runs a 4wd Training Course for Southern Tasmania and I helped on the Practical day yesterday. Basically, we take the students to a offroad track with a track with large Mud Puddles/deep ruts/boggy sections and we also have a 'rock climb'. To cut a long story short, my JK (CRD Manual, 4 Door, 33" Tyres and 2.5" Lift) did everything that the old Patrol did, particularly in the mud. But the best thing, all the rocks climbs, it did them easier than the patrol. And, one rock face the patrol could never get up, it just idles over. Wheels have been balanced once but did not fix the problem. Leak coming through front of hard top Seat belts chaffing on both front seats Key sticks on when starting jeep. Wiring/defrost and water washer installation for hardtop as they sold me the Jeep originally was a soft top and said they would fit a hardtop and the wiring would be there. As you all know it was not so they now have the job of fitting the wiring etc. I even told the sales guy at the time I thought it was not there, but he said I was wrong. Tiny 23-10-2007, 09:35 AM on the weekend did a drive with a mate we did 80km on soft sand in a river bed so its not smooth the jeep handled every thing i through at it it got bogged once but that was me getting a bit too adventureous i even got my mate to wait as i thought i would get stuck but it was worth the try with the stock tyres let down to 15psi i got 14.9l/100km fuel ecconomy for this trip which was pretty good all i can cay is I LOVE IT also i was talking to a mate that works on stockton beach he and his clients where watching a JK unlimited jumping on the dunes he approximated the distance at the same as a commodore wagon and apparently he was going off just kept doing it so obviosly another happy JK owner Stevil 26-10-2007, 05:32 PM Coming up to 20 000 km and I haven't had a single problem, absolutely love it, 2dr Crd has average between 9.7 to 11l/100km depends on my mood, ie if I really flog it, getting annoyed with traction control cause I like drifting in the wet even in 4th and 5th. looking forward to swapping tyres but there not wearing out quick enough. JEEPCHIK 01-11-2007, 09:39 AM Just wondering guys and gals how much bigger is the JK 2 door compared to the TJ in the "boot area", with and without the backseat folded up:?: :?: I've seen heaps of the JK 2 doors from the outside and I can definately see they have improved on the size but haven't read/heard anything from the people who own and drive them daily:confused: I really, really like them but not sure if they are for me.Would be next year before I could seriously consider doing the swap to a new jeep anyway. Thanx in advance:) Brettski 01-11-2007, 10:16 AM Just wondering guys and gals how much bigger is the JK 2 door compared to the TJ in the "boot area", with and without the backseat folded up Couldn't tell you actual measurements, but... When I hired a TJ last year my normal 4WD esky that fitted behind the back seat of my 40 series wouldn't fit behind the seat of the TJ. But it does fit in the JK. Also, I tried putting my bike (56 cm road bike, for reference - with the front wheel removed) into the TJ without removing the rear seat and it just wasn't possible. It is possible (just) in the JK. With the rear seat removed I can fit two bikes and camping gear easily. In short, quite a bit bigger. One of the reasons I waited for the JK. No amount of mods would have given me that space in a TJ. B. Drafty 01-11-2007, 04:54 PM With the rear seat removed (easy to do, just fold forward (tumble) and undo a latch and extract seats in folded position) Just measured 1200mm long 1000mm wide (between wheel arches) x 1000mm high. its exactly 1200mm between the roll bars and 1430mm wide between side windows of the hardtop. The swing door and glass lift up tail gate allow better access than some other 'larger' 4x4's. JEEPCHIK 01-11-2007, 05:05 PM Hmmm very interesting.I was hoping they would be considerably bigger is the back than the TJ and I have seen just how much room there is behind the backseat in JK.It's cavenous compared to the TJ.Now I just have to win lotto and I'll buy a JK:D redgp 01-11-2007, 05:19 PM Drafty cheated, he hasnt got one (a JK) he just ducked out the back and measured up mine. He is/was hear trying to talk me into helping him buy his JK this weekend. JEEPCHICK, the room in the back is enough for all our camping gear including a 40ltr weaco and a big tent (folded1200mm x 300mm x 300mm black wolf) food for 30 days, 80 ltrs water in two tanks over the wheel arches, 80 ltrs of aux fuel underneath in an aux tank, dual batteries underneath in a custom built carrier, two peoples clothes ect ect. The only problem is the GVM of 2,505klg. with the hardtop on it means you only have 500klg for two people , all the fluids and all the gear, we figure we will go 150klg over and will be fitting air bag helpers for our trips. micq 09-11-2007, 10:55 AM Got my new battery today [original died on 29/9],hope they bought a few extras into stock. Should get a good deal by end of financial year. ... I hope all this is wrong. I've waited months just to test drive a manual CRD...and naturally presumed that it would be running 4.1's. I mentioned in the test drive section... that 5th was barely necessary...and wondered what use 6th gear would be at all. It appears then...that perhaps this 6 speed manual CRD Unlimited I drove....may indeed have the higher gearing. 'Not happy Jan'...if that's the case. Love the engine in the diesel...but would want to go to 33's at least...but seeing as 5th is marginal...and 6th of no use now (in a diesel mind you )... I can't see going to 3.73's has been a good step. It would seem that the six speed was well matched to the 4.1 gearing...but not the 3.73's or higher. I've no desire to buy a new car and spend thousands on gearing before we even start the rest of the mods. Went through all this in the TJ.... thought D.C. might have learnt from their mistake..but it appears they may not. Now I have to get a stat dec...from the dealership that the manual is indeed a 4.1 ... yes...I can see that happening.....'NOT' !:( All this..just when I've convinced my partner it would be a good trade. J.B. 09-11-2007, 01:51 PM That's a bit concerning about the batteries. I mean, they are an Optima Yellow Top aren't they? Well, if they aren't, that's what they look like. Also, 2,600RPM at 110? I have a CRD Manual and have 33" Tyres, in 6th I am pulling only around 2,000 - 2,100 RPM. And low range in ours is damn low (1st gear low range is almost unusable). ... Not having my own to do a detailed study... the above figures are more what I would have thought the manual CRD should be delivering. Perhaps slightly higher with the 245..tyres that come standard on the 16" rims. This in turn allows for 265 or 33" tyres to be added and the car is still quite tractable. The idea of an ultra low 1st in low range appeals to me...in the absence of the Rubicons 4.1 transfer case..it would be the next best thing. From what I've read on this forum... going to 265 profile tyres or greater is one of the first mods people are looking at, so the 4.1 would be my preference.. even if I have to live with it till I've worn out my first set of tyres. (don't think I could wait that long !). Are you able to confirm your CRD Manual is a 4.1 ? I test drove a CRD Unlimited manual the other day..and we barely used 5th.. let alone sixth ! I wasn’t aware of that, the sales guy said 400, but what does he know haha. so if I roughly add extra 15% Toque that would give me 529Nm, that might explain how easily it climbed up a hefty embankment with four people inside on the weekend. J.B. 14-04-2008, 04:14 PM Well.. my info is only as good as the Chrysler / Jeep stable.. but their story.. the CRD auto...gets 460 nm... 130 hp (don't know how that works ?) ..the manual remains at 130 hp...and 410 nm. Apparently the auto tx ..was deemed more than capable of handling the extra grunt.. and it appears they have put a slightly different chip in it. They actually start building the next years stamped vehicles in July/August I believe... so whether the upgrade applies to vehicles made in the latter half of last year...or only the ones produced this year.... I honestly don't know. Doesn't matte though...because you seem pretty impressed by your machine now.. and that's all that matters. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2013, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
