Hi,

I see yours has the larger fuel tank on the passenger side. You can see the 'drop' below the door opening.

I think all combats had the drop tank ( 13? gallons instead of 10 1/2 gal ) the drop tank was also used on m38a1 military models 1953 on

The fuel tank is on the "passenger" side only from a certain perspective. As originally manufactured, the driver sat on the left, passenger on the right. Yours was modified for export to right-drive.

I see you and others have refered to this as a combat model. Looks to me like a civilian model CJ-5. The military (here at least) used the M38-A1 which is visually different and has different driveline and body parts compared to CJ-5, although they look quite similar and some parts interchange.

What is the "combat" reference from, anyone know?

Thanks. Didn't know that. Sounds as if the CJ-5s were shipped to OZ in a partial build state, for conversion to right-drive, a local driveline, and a few other changes. What transmission and T-case was generally used with the Falcon motor?

Just about what it had nere then. T90 or T86AA (T90 variant) transmissions, Spicer T18 T-case standard throughout, and Dana 44 rear end with right hand offset. Most likely there is an adapter plate between the motor and trans, which is what was done here when mounting the Buick V-6 at the factory and with any other than the 4 cylinder intended for the T90's.

Dual tanks was an option here as well, and you can still buy new right hand tanks. Conversion to a rear mounted tank is popular with some, but I prefer not to do that because of the pintle hitch assembly that came stock which would have to be cut out to mount a rear tank under the deck. The hitch is classy and stout, a good recovery point and it braces the rear of the frame just a bit.

Thanks for your responses, all.
