Hi all, my name is Frank. I am up here in Alaska. I just happened to run across this site, while searching for Tj Wrangler information. And let me tell you, there is a ton of great tech on here. Compared to most boards, where you have to wade threw a bunch of junk before you can find what you are looking for.

Right now, I am in the process of building a '98 Jeep Wrangler. Its stock as of right now, but I have the axles completed. Front is a High Pinion Dana 44, ARB, 4:88 gears, alloy axle shafts, and longfield u-joints. The Rear is a Currie Rock Jock Dana 60, ARB, 4:88 gears. Thats as far as I am on the rear right now. Waiting for more fund to continue ;)

I also have a 1973 Cj-5 Jeep that I have built. Here is a picture of it. Again, thanks for excepting me as a member.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the kind words. It has a High Pinion Dana 60 front, that we cut down to be a little more Jeep looking. 35 spline shafts, detroit locker, terra flex drive flanges. The rear is a Dana 60, that we also cut down. It has 35 spline shafts, and a spool. PSC full hydraulic steering, 14" travel coil overs in the front. With a radius arm type suspension that I built. Back is a double triangulated suspension, with 16" coil over shocks. All the link arms are 2" .250" wall tubing, with 1 1/4" hiem joints.

Motor is just a 302 HO, NP435 4 speed, and a Atlas 4.3 to 1. Tires are 47" LTB Super Swampers, on Hummer Beadlocks. Thats about it. Love the Jeep, but kinda upsets me about having to trailer the thing everywhere. So, I am building the Tj to be steet friendly, and to be able to wheel.

This is what we call a "blow" on the Arctic slope. Since the slope is a arctic desert, when the winds gets up, it can blow the snow around like a sand strom. Except the wind chill can hit blistering temps.

Is he the one will the XJ that is about as modified as Franks CJ? It must be an Alaskan thing ;)

Edit: We've also got Oddball in Anchorage, he's the one I was thinking of: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13309&d=1134126417

Greg gets on here? I have known Greg for a bit. He lives about 15 miles or so away from me. He competed twice in the OBC. He is one of the reasons I am addicted to the Outback Challenge :p

Welcome 98 (Frank). I had the pleasure of living (and working) up your way for a few months in '94. Beautiful country.

Hey, isn't Martin Buser from Wasilla? So I guess in your town the Sled Dogs must outnumber the Jeeps 10 - 1 :p

MUSH :)

Good on you Frank,...the photo's are great.

Marty,

Yeah, Martin Buser lives over in Big Lake. Which is right beside Wasilla. Like a 15 minute drive from my house.

Sled dog racing is pretty big in this area, as you may know. I bet its a 20 to 1 ratio hehehehe :D

Couple more :D

These are from St. Lawrence Island. Which is off the coast of Alaska (West) It lays right between Alaska, and Russia. About 150 miles or so from Russia. They flew our drill rig out there on a C-130. We stayed in a camp set up on the Northeast cape. Which is not inhabited. Was in the '50s by the Military. But, all that is left now is cement slabs where the building once were.

Frank,
thought that you might get a kick out of how we run sled dogs 'Down Under'. We only have 1 snow race a year, and that's at Dinner Plain in Victoria. The rest of the time we use wheeled gigs :D

Hey, I have seen them wheeled idea used up here :p Hehe. Most of the time in the summer, the sled dog guys will train using their fourwheelers. And have the dogs pull them on the local trails.

So we have the Iditarod.... And you have the Outback Challenge... Want to trade **) Hehehe

:D We can see where your coming from Frank. I don't think that we can trade :( However, some of us have already experienced (volunterring) at the Iditarod, so I guess that you'll have to venture Down Under to experience our 'Outback' Challenge,. :D

Hehehe. I am planning on it sometime in the future for sure! **) I am hoping to build this TJ to a degree where if for some odd reason I get a chance, that it could posibly compete in the OBC. Just to have a rig that could run the event would be awesome. Not win, or battle for the top placing, or anything like that. Just to experience the race, and have fun. Of course, I am a VERY long shot away from that right now :p

Of course as you may know, we have already have had two guys from Alaska (Madizell, who is a friend of mine) and Ed Angel who is also a friend of mine. Greg (Madizell) competed twice. Those guys really broke the ice for traveling to other countrys and competing for Alaska.

Well, it have been awhile since I have posted here. Been a busy summer, but it is finally over lol! Thought I would share a couple of pictures from some of the jobs we did this summer. Since, I know a couple of people on here enjoy seeing some of a different place.

This set was from Merrill Pass. Which is Alaskas second deadly pass in Alaska. We were there drilling holes on top of a mountain, putting in a weather camera/ Station. For the small plans to be able to check out the pass, before they fly it.

The job site was at 4500ft elevation, and the came was 1000ft below. Had bears, and all kinds of animals passing through the camp at night. Anyways, here are some pictures.

The first two are off the mountain. We did the holes just to the right of the peak. In the saddle part. The second one is looking down from the job site. And the last one is of the camp.

The job site was at 4500ft elevation.

I wonder how well the Jeep would go at this elevation

Might need a Kompressor (if you say it with a Schwarzenegger type accept it sounds better, I know its a supercharger  ) to get enough air in with the juice to keep it running sweet.

Now there is a justification for a supercharger kit if your wife needs one . . .

I have been up here for 18 years and counting. And I am starting to get a little sick of the cold. Summer is short (3 months if you are lucky) this summer it rained a lot. I only had 2 days where I took the top off the Wrangler. Other than that it stayed on. Trying to figure out how I can take a vacation to Australia :)
