I know its been done to death, but I'm having another go. So.....

What is the best GPS on the market now? (I dont mean one you brought 2/3 years ago thats now been superseded, not much use to me is it?)

I'm looking at a unit for long touring trips, plus day trips.
I want:
-large screen
-color
-load the maps into it or onto a card
-to be able to cover the whole of Aus, and zoom down to say 100m
-it needs to be easy to use. I hate technology.
- i dont want to have to run something in conjunction with a laptop as it seems like extra crap to lug around and break.

Afetr a couple of calls/searches it seems like the best bet at present is something like a Magellan XL with the traveller pack, that comes with Discover Oz Topo maps etc.

Opinions? Has anyone got this already and found any issues/problems (or want to rant about how good it is)?

Best place to buy?

Or should i be looking at a different thing altogether?

Magellan and topo maps beats all the effort of Ozi Explorer hands down - sure the latter gives you the choice of variety, detail etc but pretty much reinventing the wheel now the tops are out.

Discover Aus TopOs can be made to work with earlier Magellans too (old, Platinum, Colour) so another option is to pick up one of these cheap and specify the hand held in use when buying the maps.
