OK guys took the stock TJ out yesterday to lancellin and had a great hell of time. I mean climbing those hills was awesome and trust me the first time you see these dunes man they look huge. (trust me got some awesome movies and pics as well
Ok all my friends saying that i should wash the under body of my car which i did straight away, anyway do i need to wash the engine out as well from any sand or crap that may of got in from the run.
What is your strategy about rinsing of your car after beach driving. Or what should i do straight back from driving from the beach

my old man sprays the guts of his cruiser with Lanolin oil to help prevent rust etc but I reckon more sand sticks to the stuff, and you have to scrub it all off with a rag after so i just go hardcore hose action for ages making sure u get all those rails etc that love sand. Also if yours is stock take the end plastics off the front and rear bars, you will be astonished at the amount of sand they fill up with. Also try parking over a sprinkler, looks kinds weird but it works good :)

Yer did that yesterday, park it under neath the sprinkler for a very long time.
but you know what i think i have learn that keeping either the hard top or soft top on is a good bet as it will stop the sand from coming into the car.:wall:
as yesterday, the day look to good so took the top off and got stuck and then you know it all sand is just pouring inside the car. Man it was hell trying to clean it out. :D
I took my doors off once on the beach, it was fun for the first minute or so ;)

Mmmmm the beach is the funnest part of the jeepness ;)
I've had soooo much sand inside my jeep it ain't funny :)
The best tricks are:
1) Get it rustproofed. I have ERPS and had it done at Tintmart or somewhere for $300 or so, not that sticky lanolin crap. Then have a heap of fun at the beach, get sand everywhere :)
2) Stay out of salt water. If it's above the axle you'll rust it :) Driving in wave runoff is kinda ok at slow speed but not too often ;)
3) When you get home pull the roof off, pull the mats out, lift up the carpet, pull off the seat covers (optional) and vacuum the CRAP out of it.
4) Put the roof back on, wash it normally (the panels and windows etc)
5) Get the hose and with low pressure shove it in everywhere. The chassis rails, door arches, bumpers, t-case plate etc. High pressure cleaners just shove stuff where they shouldn't belong.
6) Don't wash the engine bay. Ever. Unless you swamp it with mud :)
If you don't worry too much about it, give it a nice low pressure soak and keep out of the salt water you'll do less damage at the beach (even over 20 years) than in the bush.

Jeeps, just a quick question why do you advise against washing the engine bay, i do mine after nearly every trip to get the mud and crap out of it.
In that jeep magazine you get for free with 4wd monthly occasionally shows a jeep thats spent time on the beach without being washed in the bay and its covered in rust.

I'm curious about that too jeeps as i thought washing out the engine bay would really help clean out the salt or else the engine bay will start to get rusty

Not to jump on the band wagon - but I use almost a whole can of engine degreaser each big muddy trip! its only like $5 but by time you get onto everything a whole cans gone. Spray on - let set for a minute or two and low presure rinse or scrub if needed.

Stay well away from the computer in the back corner and you'll be fine, Donza does just what I do! ;)

I was mostly referring to high pressure cleaners but i've never 'thoroughly' washed my engine bay in the 5.5 years i've owned it. If you start high pressure cleaning the engine bay you'll force water where it shouldn't be.
I usually do half a dozen trips up the beach each year and get sand everywhere but the engine bay has been rustproofed so i don't usually touch it. I don't do mud (anymore) and that was the worst for the engine bay. Mud is bad for rust cause that stuff sits on the body, dries out and then peels off with a bit of paint or underbody rustproofing leaving the metal bare. Sand and beach salt just dilutes and rinses off with the lightest pressure from the tap.
I reckon that the engine bay isn't designed to get water in there very often so i keep it that way ;)

Not wanting to sound like a completely arrogant ********, well any more than I truly am . . .
Am a country(ish) boy. I have a dam, I can park in it
The sprinkler works good. Parking in the dam gives yiou a nice long soak ;)
Yeah fine, I only go in to door sill height, and yeah, I have to put the roof down and jump off the back to avoid drowning myself
but hey, it works for me.
