G'day,
just a quick query guys, I've read that the engine is pre-programmed or somethng to be restrained for the first 1,000km or something, and then people have reported it significantly livens up after this???
Anyone had any experience with this,? and after how many KM's can this be expected. I've done 800km so far, and while I've noticed things loosen up I haven't experience any major or noticeable imnprovement in pickup or performance yet??? Cheers for any replies guys, be interested to know anyone's thoughts on this... ;)

well no matter what motor it is if its a new motor they usaully take until about 5000-15000 k before you have full power but its usually so gradual you won't all of a sudden say gee its a lot more powerful today. All engines running in will be a bit different my 4l Rangie v8 motor did not develop full power until 15000 k and my 600cc Honda CBR engine was 5000k. Thats why i find it interesting people take demos for a spin and say that was not as powerful as i thought when they have only done a few hundred kays.
all the best Mark:D

cheers for the reply, but apparently the computer or whatever in these motors are programmed to be restricted for the fist ???km's, and I've read on a few forums in the US that some JK owners report that the difference is like night and day, and not gradual. Anyone with a JK thats done a few km's or anyone in the know here got any thoughts on this one???? cheers.

I would be interested to find out if what you have read is true. To be somewhat frank, dont believe everything you read! Esp on US forums. There are way too many uninformed people prepared to make stupid statement and many more willing to perpetuate the incorrect info.
I think it would be a first for any manufacturer if there was some sort of protection mode. That does require more than average ECU power and capability.
As mentioned, there is will be a slow loosening up of the engine, how many kay's it takes to loosen - that has more to do with what revs the engine generally lives at.

My JK revved pretty well in the first 1,000 kms. Didn't feel any restriction from the computer during that time...

Haven't heard about ecu restriction in any vehicles but what i do know is don't baby it early on in its life.
Once the engine's warmed up... give it heaps, vary the revs. Don't go on a crusey 500km drive on the freeway... that's the worst thing you can do to a new engine.
