Hi all,

Just after any local knowledge that may be able to healp with the final planning of our trip in 8 weeks.

We are heading off for 3 weeks from Taamborine Qld. We are off to Bamaga to visit my brother in-law. Our plan is to get up to The Cape Development road asap. We will then head to the Telegraph rd and stay at Elliots falls for a few nights with the Brother in-law. We will then head to Bamaga and the Tip.

Our plan was to head back down the development rd to Ravenshoe. We were planning to head down the Kennedy Development Rd to Hughenden, then down through Muttaburra to Longreach.

I was wondering if anyone had done this run and could advise as to the condition etc of this route.

any help would be great.

:D :D :D :D :D

Sounds like a good trip,if there are storms about when you get to Hughenden be carefull ,black soil on Muttaburra road will pack up & jam wheels in first 100 mtrs.Sunday session in muttaburra pub used to be pretty good.

Thanks for that. We have a tradition that is usually pisses down when we are on holidays, so if the wet season is to come early it will be this year.

I'm not familiar with the Mutaburra Rd but I used to live in Ingham and have been through sections of the Kennedy Development Rd a few times between Ingham & Mt Garnet.

There are sections that are windy and unsealed which can be a handful in wet weather so maybe a good set of mud terrains would be useful.

Only other advice I can give about that is if your tradition holds and it gets torrential go the coastal route from Ravenshoe and then head back inland from Townsville.
When it gets real wet you can be stuck for days between Ravenshoe and Ingham waiting for creeks to drop regardless of the inland or costal route, but the coast always opens up the quickest

On the plus side if there is some flow about, Blencoe falls (north of Cardwell & south of Tully) is a prime spot you can access off the Kennedy Development Rd or Bruce highway and well worth a look & a swim :)

Have a good trip
