I have an idea in mind which involves replacing all the gauges for a 1960 cj5 with electric ones and making a new cluster, but I don't know whether it's posible to fit an electric speedo to a Spicer 18... Anyone had any experience with this?

Cheers,

Lachlan

Many (like 35) years ago there was a mob called universal gauge and instruments that sold electronic speedo to replace the old cable type. It did not go into the gearbox though it just ran off magnets stuck on to the drive shaft, they also sold cruise controls that ran off the same magnets.
Haven't seen anything lately though.

OK, thanks for the heads up, it at least gives me at of hope in finding a converter. I looked around for them, but they either don't have a website or they've gone by the wayside.

You could try Olympic Instruments in Pymble NSW ? If they are still around, they used to rebuild and service and calibrate speedo's, gauges etc.

Not sure if it will fit a spicer18 but if it has the same speedo size adapter as a D300 then get at speedo adpater from a YJ it has a hall effect and mechnical output and you can order through jeep if you give them the part number CHRYSLER 5233152 OEM or
CHRYSLER 56027015 OEM

looks like this http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/6483/sc108fullel0.jpg I used one for my speed sensor in my 4.0L swap
