Just saw on the news a segment bagging offroaders and calling us hoons. They think we are endagering lives by driving bush trails because they think we all wreck the fire trails and make it hard for fire fighting trucks to access areas. i think this is crap and it gives me the S*its. They showed footage off Utube of some 4b's driving through some natural washouts and said this is how we wreck the trails. It just makes me mad. If we didnt drive most of the trails they would all just be over grown anyway. Just wanted to vent my anger... Anyone else see this?

its the view of the general public, anyone who enjoys motorsports of any kind is a hoon,
its bulshit, your car/4wd (for most people) is the 2nd largest purchase you will ever make, you have every right to enjoy it, within reason of course,

To be honest they are not far off the mark. Tracks that are over used and heavily rutted are a big prolem for the CFA, having to naviagate around a track or even worse having to have firefighters work around on foot puts them at risk and can seiously impact on their ability to get the fire under control.
Mind you the other side to the coin which never gets mentioned is that a lot of the responsible 4x4 community actually significantly assist the CFA by keeping tracks clear of debris and removing rubbish from the forests etc.

The tracks in question (in the youtube video) are not gazetted fire trails.

joy, i can already see the outcome for this.I'v been wheeling out there for the best part of 8 years. Sadly the 'city slickers' are encroaching on us and 4 wheel driving is seen as something archaic and socialy wrong.

Looking at the video I realy didn't see any hoon activity.
They took theire time to get through what trail they had in front of them.
Going by the fuss that's going around it sounded like they were do'in doughnut's or something stupid like that.

The vehicles did look rather tame and I didn't think their behaviour was that bad. they just didn't flex very well

Why do you say that ? Was that filmed there? do you know something we dont?
That clip is the wombat holes at Appin. I suppose we shouldnt call them that anymore as some people now think we drive over actual real wombat holes!

Thought so, but doesn't that lead to the steps that you're average firey couldn't get up in a landcruiser anyway?

wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't local vested interest, that supplied the info. ie disgruntled local not liking 4x4 using trails, or even national parks!
