I know its late notice so I don't expect many to be available but I thought I'd put it out there anyway. Anyone interested in a run to Powerlines this weekend? It could be muddy fun after this rain.

well we didnt intend to go to the powerlines but as we were in the area we decided to hit the upper trail and see if anyone had shown up...it was just Ken n Jude and I in Tigs and Red Bette...nearly to the exit road i decided to have a quick go down a very short but very deeply rutted obstacle when BAM! both rear coils came out) one all the way out and the other half dislodged. and NO tools. NO hi lift jack. just a stock oem jack (ahem, tigs is 4.5" of lift and 33s). one long screwdriver. 3 people. a log. a large flat rock. this was bush mechanics at its best! managed to get it all back together in about an hour. NEVER EVER go offroad without being prepared (limiting straps optional) ;)

What keeps ya springs in there anyway? no bumpstops when U use those bags.

ian What keeps ya springs in there anyway?

the bumpstops on a normal setup will help aid in keeping the springs from popping out (unless u snap the bumpstop of course) but still allows the springs to rotate and shift depending on the spring rating. on our TJ, because we pull a trailer and have added airbags, we completely removed the bumpstops as a large hole had to be cut in the upper spring perch for the airline. to help keep the spring from shifting we welded a wide band around the top of the spring perch to keep the upper coil from shifting. problem is on full extension there is nothing to keep it from dropping out so will be adding limiting straps to the setup for a permanent fix. ive never had this problem before and suspect it happened because we shifted the top of the shock forward with a new bracket creating more downforce on full extension (the shock sits more straight up and down now). the shock dust cover also hits the bottom of the spring and perch which also may have aided enough downward force to pop the coils loose. will be making new lower shock brackets to fix this clearance problem.
