not much point having a high lift if you don't have anywhere to lift off

Chad_TJ
20-03-2008, 09:45 AM
good plans there mate it will look good. Might want to reconsider a set of muddies, they are not the most pleasent tyre to run if your not going to be needing them, on road some brands dont have real good grip in the wet, they are all abit noisey, and they will make the jeep work abit harder in the sand as they dig in as oppossed to sorta floating on the sand. But if you just love the look of them, then by all means get them i love the look 2.

So is the star shaped thing your need called a torx bit? Can I pick a set up from Repco?

Tiny
20-03-2008, 10:30 AM
yes and yes you can get bits that go in drills up to t handles
take the jeep to repco ask them for a torx set mine cost about $12 and make sure you have the one you need i think from memory it is a 40 or 50

De-lux, I've got a 33x12.5R17 STT on the back of mine and its fine.. One question though, why did you buy new rims? the standard ones will take 33's no probs...

I didn't have to put spacers in mine....

life as a promo car, hence the mall cruising side of it.

Promo car with mismatched wheels/tyres???? Yuk....

That said, I really like the new wheel/tyre combo. Beastly :D

Hey De-Lux, what's the backspacing on those rims? btw it's looking awesome, I been chatting with the guys at Fourbys and they're great. I'm thinking of a similar set up, but with the new BFG KM2s

Hi mate,

I'm not 100% sure about this, but from memory it's a 12mm offset with a 5" backspacing.

I'm very happy with how it looks and even more happy with how it performs offroad. The choice of tyres was purely because i had Mickey's on my hilux and I knew that they are a great tyre, so i was keen to stick to the brand

Ok thanks mate. Yep, definitely looking awesome. I think the black steel rims on a black JK works well. It almost makes 33's look closer to 35's because of the all black look.

de-lux, when are you starting the build-up?

thats what i was wondering a suction cup phone holder is the sort of stuff hardcore builds are made of apparently.

This whole thread is a waste of bandwidth and server space

Hey De-Lux, i'm very close to buying pretty much the same wheels/tyres! I was going for the BFG KM2s, but for the money - the MTZs are looking nicer. BTW, I asked Fourby's, those rims are apparently "Dynamics", not procomp?? I checked the dynamic website too, and they definitely look identical to yours.

Yep, I was thinking of going procomp 97 seriers rock crawlers... going to check tomorrow to see if they can get them in with the right backspacing.

Yep ... good job De_Lux,

Nothing better than seeing well thought out placement of driving lights.

If you ever get round to getting someone to hook em up for you ... get them to put about a metre square of skateboard deck tape on your bonnet as well. ;)

hahaha... ummm, ok. Thanks Carvesdodo (i think... )

de-lux, i dont thing you have any need to be polite about carvesdodo's comment. he is being plain, straight-up rude and sarcastic. just as with his previous post about this being a 'dress up'. one would hope for a higher standard of behaviour on a discussion forum.

as for the substance of the criticism about placement of the lights, i dont think you will have any problems with reflection from the bonnet. the light will be shining away from you, onto a horizontal surface. the light cannot be reflected back into your eyes. simple as that. it could, however, be an issue if there were any vertical surfaces in front of it eg top of a bull bar etc.

do you know if it legal to mount lights there, btw? with all the regs about everything to do with motor vehicles, i am thinking maybe not.

regards
alexander.

Sarcastic .... Absolutely ... but in the nicest possible way ... Even De_Lux saw that and responded accordingly.. He knows its a bling car ... we know its a bling car ... If its suits his purposes ... so be it.

A visual image of the result of forward facing lights mounted at different heights ... and a recommendation on how to resolve the issue. informative I would have thought. Based on practical experience too... something you appear to have a lack of in regard to the matter.

as for the substance of the criticism about placement of the lights, i dont think you will have any problems with reflection from the bonnet.

De_Lux has shown sufficient knowledge that an illuminated bonnet surface will induce eye strain / cause glare despite the fact the lightbeam wont be reflecting back at the driver. Something to do with refraction then reflection, rather than just reflection so I was told, when explaining why I found them annoying mounted anywhere but out front.

Plain, straight up rude .... only about his driving incidents ... hey De_Lux :D but thats because actions are different to purchases. ;)

A little saying for you alexander, something I learnt on this forum ... have a teaspoon of cement.

Yeah I'm not 100% sure about the legalities, I would be inclined to think they aren't, mainly because they block a little bit of your vision (only a very small amount)

If your adhereing to legalities there is a distance of unobstructed visibility forward of the vehicle. Probably varies state to state.

Its one of the reasons a front bar is now largely ineffective in the event of a striking a decent sized roo. ADR approved ones dont sit up high enough.
