Hello everyone,

I'm finally about to get my tax return back in the next few days and I was wanting to get some opinions on this bull bar I've had my eye on:

http://www.quadratec.com/products/12000_1001_07.htm

I've rung ARB Australia and they only seem to export this model to the United States, hence it's Quadratec exclusive.

Has anyone bought a bull bar from Quadratec before? the dollar difference means it comes to approx. AUD $560.00, I'm not sure about shipping costs. It seems a little stupid that a bull bar manufactured in Australia cannot be sold locally.

I got a rugged ridge bar from quadratec it cost around 300 AUD for freight that was including a few bits and pieces which they shipped seperatly. delivery times were just over a week after order fully confirmed so fast delivery via ups.

Shipping will be between $250.00 - $300.00 aud. Y dont you email Quadratec and see if you can buy the bar from them, but get Quadratec to tell ARB here to ship to your door as the bar is from AUS. Unlees its realy mad in China lol. If they can do that, the shipping should be next to none.

I like that bar too but wondered what the boys in blue might say about it not covering the front wheels as much as a normal arb bar. Plus the rollers look like they stick out heaps too...

cheers

I've already thought of that and I'm waiting for a reply from Quadratec.

Quadratec emailed me back: basically stated what I was assuming, that I would need to import. Hopefully with the increasing Australian dollar at the moment the reality of a purchase becoming feasible may be not too far off.

This just looks like standard ARB winchbar but without the sidehoops. Why not just buy one of those and cut them off?

Not only that the side marks aren't there. Plus the big thing you all miss is the width of the bar. The end of each corner, only comes to the start of the flares. Have a good look at it. You will see what i mean.

Yes but the original one isn't THAT much wider

From ARB Australia:

Some time ago we designed an manufactured said bar for the US market. This was to meet a high volume demand in a country that has fairly loose ADR requirements.

You are correct in assuming that this has not been designed to meet the Australian ADR standards. Hence this bar not available domestically here in Australia.

I'm now looking for similar bars...

Hi

Gotta love the bit about 'loose ADR requirements'. The Yanks are some of the TOUGHEST in auto design requirements. I would have to say (from the relative safety of NZ!!) that the Oz regulations are pedantic to say the least! :p Just funny stuff like having to convert all LHDs to RHD, no 'flashing brake light' type indicators etc. Odd. If all those American cars are safe in America then why can't they be safe in Oz?:wall: The front end treatment of the new Mustang is a prime example.
I guess we are lucky here that we don't have to do any of those conversions re lights etc. They only have to dip to the left etc. Red rear indicators are just fine. LHD is OK too - but there are some conditions.

ANyway, I gues it what makes the world go round.
