G'day...
Want to be able to do the oils in and inspect the diffs, but when I look at it I note there is some form of liquid gasket or simmilar around the flange and bolts.
Does anyone know what this stuff is? Is it simply liquid gasket? Is it something specific for diffs?
Cheers.

It's probably black RTV - readily available from most Auto stores.

Yeah, likely to be RTV silicone gasket. When you buy some, just make sure it is suitable for the purpose and described on the label.

There are several different types of liquid gasket goop available.
Repco and Autobarn etc.. sell it.
Make sure you state that it's for sealing a diff. Some of the different types aren't suitable for sealing against oil etc...
I use the blue stuff (forget what brand) and it's really good, scrapes off easily when you need to check the diff next time and you only need a really thin layer to seal properly..

I have tried many different RTV sealants, blue, black, orange, and found the BEST one is old school roofies silicone, all the others seem to let go after a couple of hits to the diff hat, silicone hasnt let go yet.
