Hi Guys

Finally got around to putting new rubber under the truck went for 245/70/17 Cooper Hts dont do much offroad use it for towing and promotion for our business.

Heres what happened tyre fitter was aware of tpms sensors in wheels so took extra care everthing ok for a week then left rear tyre going down with subsequent warning on dash display took vehicle back to have tyre checked nothing in tyre they resealed it on the bead and off i go. 2 days later same thing back again this time in water bath air escaping around valve.

Removed tpms and seal, seal damaged, they removed and installed standard valve stem.
Off to jeep to get replacement, sorry we dont keep those!!!!! can sell you a nut and complete sensor assemble $227.00 !!!!

Research time, tpms sensor part no 56053031ad commander 06 and grand cherokee 05-06 sensor manufactured by vdo they have a service kit for these sensors which consist of washer seal valve insert nut and cap.
generic part no s180014561a that also suit various other brands ie Jag/Volvo/Mercs etc
have called but so far no reply.
ebay have them listed as well in the states so i bought 2 sets for around $40 aus delivered
cheap insurance if this happens again.Search tpms service kit.

Apparently its recommended that the seals etc be changed when new tyres are fitted.

The attached photos show the sensor seal and washer plus the ebay kit.

I will now carry these in my spares kit just in case and when i get the sensor back in the bloody dash warning will go away most annoying!!!!!

Make sure if you have these sensors in your wheels to tell the tyre company before they try and tear them out like standard valve stems this will completely destroy the sensor luckily mine was only a seal problem as the sensor did its job and warned me about the low tyre pressure.

Hope this info helps any one else out there with similar problems

cheers

We're looking at changing rims and tyres on our new Jeep Wrangler (haven't picked it up yet even). Like you just got hit with the sensor price! The tyre fellow told us they can't be transferred to the new rims, I'm sure as hell not buying 5 new ones either!
So we're deliberating weather to just get new tyres and not rims and keep the sensors at the moment. I've passed your info onto my Husband as he will be interested to know about that seal kit.

I just fitted steel rims and tyres to the Coommander 2 weeks ago. I removed the sensors and fitted them to the steels no problems. One thing to be carefull of is be jentle when removing the rubber sealing washer and also when putting them in the new rims don't tighten the vale oter down too hard or you will break the rubber sealing ring. You can allways nip them up a little after they are installed when you check for leaks with soapy water. Also if you break the rubber washer either make a new one with a wad punch or use an O ring

They can be transferred over...I've done mine with no problems. The idiots forget they are being spun at a million miles an hour drivinhg anyway and being vibrated and shocked....they just can't be botherd with the odd one that leaks...

Typical....
