Made the commitment and ordered a Gmade R1 earlier in the week and now am just trying to sort out the electronics for it. After a lot of reading at this stage I'm thinking:

Tekin FXR and 45T Pro Motor
CC 10amp BEC
Hitec HS-7950TH servo for steering
Hitec HS-645MG servo for dig
Castle Link Programming Kit

Anyone with any other suggestions or advice?

Cheers,
Butts

I went for the Tekin FXR with 35T. Hopefully it's together this weekend and I can let you know how it goes.

I use a 65 turn on mine, nice and lumpy ;) Prob would go lower as its really restricted my top end and cant bump up ledges anymore.

I'd been tossing up between the 35T and 45T motor. Will be interested in your thoughts when it's up and running.

My crawler uses a 6turn Cobalt motor. Heaps of torque and heaps of wheel speed! Only problem is it's a rather long motor- about 1.5x longer than a 540!

From what I've read, motor size is a real issue on the R1s, especially with the dig unit (that I've also ordered). I haven't received the kit yet so still not sure.

Many in the US seemed to be going for the 35T so that's what I based my decision off. I didn't want to be buying twice if I found it was too fast or too slow, 35T sounds like a good balance.

Well I got to try it out last night and it's pretty bloody fast with a 35T motor and 3s lipo, I think a 45T would be good for crawling. I haven't adjusted any throttle curves yet though.

Thanks. Tomorrow is my day off so I'll probably make a final decision and order it then...

How did the rest of your build go?

The kit itself went well, just sorting out the electronics. I thought I might be able to get away without an external BEC but the 3S is too powerful and it overheats quickly. I may have consequently damaged the servo, it won't turn past about half lock.

Oh and the stock tyres are crap for crawling, I've ordered some HB Rover Whites with new rims and I'll keep the stockers for racing around on dirt.

Either you guys got any pics yet?

I've got no electronics yet (ordered but have not arrived) and just have mine to rolling chassis stage. Couldn't help but quickly put the wheels and stock tyres together to see how it'll look when it's all done.

I've seen some pics of neil_se's done on Crawl Pit and RCCrawler (I think) so he's probably got some better opportunity for pics than me.

Overall it seems pretty well made. Some of the mounting holes on 1 of my axle assemblies weren't drilled out properly but that didn't slow the install up too much.

Mine all went together fine except for one small shock internal that won't clip on properly so it's leaking badly. I might need to order a rebuild kit. I put in some pure silicon 35W shock oil too. My new tyres arrived, I just need to get some wheel weights before putting them together.

Those body panels have turned out awesome. Will have to come over for a drive once I get my tcase before I disassemble mine to turn it into a Willys.

I've just got to re-solder the ESC and motor, the motor started smoking the other day and Blair's drunken welds have broken off the tabs.

Oh and Butts, I ended up safety wiring the driveshaft unis because I popped them twice in about 20 mins of driving and it's impossible to get to them with the body panels on. There's a good thread on RCC showing it.

Mine are digitally printed and mounted to aluminium panels.

The aluminium panels look awesome - well done!

I'm still chipping away at mine. Mostly assembled and just waiting on a battery and battery charger that I'm yet to order until I can get the rest assembled.

I haven't bought the battery or the charger yet so have been hunting for the same info. Hoping to order both on my next day off (Monday) so will be looking to make decisions over the next couple of days.

I've got couple of 1300mAh 3S lipos and they fit perfectly on the underside of the battery tray (gets the weight lower).
