[QUOTE=Studgun;1521309]Cleaned the fingerprint dust off the fuel cap and put 20L of petrol back in it after some kids siphoned it whilst it was parked in the staff carpark at the police station on Saturday night. Apparently nowhere is safe from sniffers.

Hmmmm, sounds like you need to trade in for a diesel!

Like many, I'm really not a fan of the plastic chrome pieces that are on the GCs (I don't think chrome has ever been or will ever be as cool as it was in the muscle car era) so I've gone the DIY, non-permament, reasonably cheap route and decided to Plasti Dip away all the chrome.

I ordered my dip last week from Caswell and it arrived 2 days later (which was quite impressed by).

Being as sensible as I could be I decided to start on a part that could be removed and dipped, so I first dipped the grille rings. This gave me a good understanding of how the product sprayed, how thick it went on, that kind of thing.

Having this go well, I then dipped the front Jeep badge and all four wheels to match the grille trim.

My GC is Billet Silver so I decided to go with the Anthracite Metallic Grey Plasti Dip to create some contrast without doing what every other GC owner is doing and just going black on these parts.

I'm pretty happy with my colour choice. Here's how it came up. My plan is to dip the remaining chrome pieces next weekend including the fog light bezels, tail light bezels, window trim and all the remaining badges.

I have to admit that I rolled my eyes a bit when I started reading... I'm not a fan of the 'blacking out' craze. But that looks excellent!
Good choice on the anthracite metallic grey, makes all the difference IMO.

Cheers mate—and I'm with you. The 'blacking out' feels a bit commonplace (almost rife on that other Jeep forum), but I still want to get away from the bog stock 'carpark crawler' look. I live near Wagga (and work in Wagga) and there are just so many new GCs getting about driven by platinum blonde soccer mums and it's driving me up the wall.

For mine, I'm aiming for a tougher, more aggressive off-road look and capability. I'm a big fan of the Trailhwak II, Trail Warrior and more recently the Overlander concepts—I think they each have some beautifully functional aesthetic elements, so I have drawn inspiration from these. I have a bit of a vision of how I'd like my GC to come together, and it might take 2 years or so but I'll get there. I just wish I could buy the flares from those concept vehicles! :D

I agree with this. I love my overland but the amount of GCs I see is making me want to trade in for something else. As you say most of them soccer moms which is fine by me they are good vehicles but stop acting like you are driving a brand new range rover. Maybe it's just the ones in my area though.

Picked up my new CRD Overland last week ... Added Chief Recovery hooks today, and picked up some 18 inch wheels/tyres, which I will throw on soon for my upcoming trip to Fraser Island ... Also gave it a wash and wax.
