pulled half the guts outta my dash to swap components into daves xj to source an open circuit - finally found a burnt out connector for the headlights near the brake pedal 3-1/2 hours later...spent another 30 minutes putting bandit back together lol

in case you are interested: the problem was the headlights were only working intermittently...we all know the switch is a prime culprit but this wasnt the case here...traced it down to a connector burnt all to hell

ps - Grant, i now remember who i ordered the motor mount for lol...will put it on the shelf for the next victim...glad to see you got it sorted tho...also, found the directions for the handheld - will give it to yas next time we wheel together - R

got all the suspension done and panhard sorted last weekend. shes now rolling again :D

just put in an order with the wooders for some RE superflex UCA's and also RE LCA drop brackets with bracing

next mod (after i get the rear bushies on) is to make a storage unit for the rear area out of 12mm & 17mm ply that will store a fridge and esky on roll out runners and also house a duel battery, compressor, water pump and other camping bits and pieces

Tried to fit new shocks but failed!!!

indertdxj 12-10-2007 06:24 PM

My new (secondhand) shocks are much bigger than old OE. Secondly they are harder to install than I thought. In fact I gave up and put OE back on.

The problem is that the skyjacker shocks are so hard to compress I can attach the top but can't push them up to put the bolt through the eye (on rear shocks).

Easy I though. I can push the shocks in a couple of inches while under the car so if I jack up the car and let the weight of the wheel pull the axle down a couple of inches I might push harder and make it happen.

Well lesson learnt. With a 3.5 inch lift the old OE bottle jack does not really even touch the chassis at full extension netalone pull the tyre of the ground.

So I think I need some one with a hoist or buy myself a high lift (damn!!) and jack up via the tow bar or something. I am working this weekend so it may have to wait until next week

Oh I think the cat likes the jeep!! Very interested in the shocks or was that the fluffy stuff coming out of the box they came in?

decided to install my new amp in the cargo area and then found a water leak so gutted the entire inside from the front seats aft to seal everything up. then decided to build a storage unit while i had it apart...then decided if i was doing to do that id better install the rollcage to fit around the box...all this just for an amp! :wall: at least i got to take the angle grinder to something
