Can you pull it open by hand? if so, your gas struts may be stuffed. I'm getting glass strut replacements off Ebay

Thanks guys

You are all seriously legends, found the little access panel got the trusty screwdriver in there and twisted, and bingo got that little bugger open.

Will have to use it that way until I can a spare part, but that’s more than ok!

I really do appreciate your input, and a big thanks to KKnut for the photos and advice they really were a big help.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Im having this exact issue but no joy on using the screw driver. For a while I had to use the keys to unlock at the same time turn the screw driver and it worked. Now it wont budge even using the key trick. God knows what to do next...

That was clearly a sign something was no good [emoji23] Perhaps some spray lube pointed into the mechanism from the inside may help? If it does open you better pull the trim off right away and see where it’s going wrong. Good luck and pics would be cool.

Have someone push on (bounce) the tailgate from the outside, to take the pressure off the latch, while you try to turn the screwdriver. Then a good coat of grease over all latch parts for now, until you sort it.

Not sure I would have been routinely using the screwdriver to open the rear tailgate, if that is what you have been doing. It was probably only designed for very infrequent emergency use.
