Also check the mounting of the steering box to the chassis - it's a known weak point

Breakage....

Hey PureCaboose,

I hate to break (no pun intended) this to you but it sounds suspiciously like you have chipped some teeth off your spider gears inside the hemi-sphere!

What you are describing is identical to what happened to my Dana 30 when it destroyed the teeth off a couple of the spider gears in the hemi......

Be very careful driving it as I found that the steering locked up randomly obviously as the broken teeth floated around in the hemi or the broken spider gears didn't mesh properly.

Give me a call to discuss if you like - you have my number ;)

Regards Phil

Made for an interesting trip back from Lithgow last night (60km/h the whole way).

Had a good look under in the light this morning, nothing looks broken or bent. The chassis mount for the panhard has a little bit of movement when you turn the wheel L-R-L one after the other which I suspect is the issue here. I can't tighten the bolt anymore and it still moves about 4mm.

Any ideas? Am i on the right track with the panhard? I have a 2" lift installed, however there was no issues untill I blew the front passenger axles a few months ago and let Jeep work on my car (warranty repair).

Just booked it in with Jeep for an warranty investigation/repair on Thursday. They covered the broken uni/axle, ball joints and front drive shaft last time, so hopefully they will cover what ever is broken this time......probably got damaged when I broke the uni and the few D grade runs i have done since them have only weekened it to the point that I gave out on the weekend (assuming it is in the diff).

After talking to Phill from OzAdventure4x4 it sounds exactly like what I am experiencing, damaged spider gears in the diff centre.

I will provide an update when I have heard more.
