If you check out the latest 4WD Action DVD, there is a short clip at the end of the DVD of Mt Airly with Lithgow 4wd club fixing up the track.(the track has been graded now).

Thanks for the detail Richo. Going by your description it sounds like you drove up through Mount Wilson (by the way they were filming "The Great Gatsby" up there around Feb). You then continued through Mount Irvine and down to Bowens Creek and then up the cliffhanger of a goat track up to Bilpin. It's a beauty that one, I ventured it once and was a more than a little worried about what to do if I had opposing traffic, would have been f%#@ basically! Mt Airlie is on my must do very soon list, just waiting till after I do the lift.

"F***ed* now. The mining company has put a dozer and grader through and you could drive a Rav 4 to Airlie now. After Airlie the road still has its challenges but only to Xmas as there are plans to grade the whole road. So get out there before a tour bus beats you to it.
Pic's of before and now.

And they call 4wders “environmental vandals”:(

Col is a good man with plenty of knowledge of the district. I've been to his place many of times and he always has something interesting to talk about. As I am from Ben Bullen/Cullen Bullen area, Col has seen my AMC, Jeep and Hudson collection. Every one knows his yellow Studebaker Hawk driving around town every so often. It is a shame that Centennial Coal decided to bulldoze part of that Airly track. The Airly mine has the go ahead to expand in that area so it is a matter of time that full access will be denied in that area. It is a shame.
