cherren meant to ask the Cooper Discoverer ST 17" x 10.5" are they the same measurement as the 245/65 R17 or are they the 245/70 R17 equivalent. I put the 245/70 R17's on my WH and had to get rid of them they were too loud it was like a jet engine. The tyre guy agreed so I went back to the 245/65R17 in Discoverer ATR. As a matter of interest I met a guy in Kalgoorlie while I was travelling around WA recently and he had the 245/70 R17 ST's. He was towing a 20' van and did a driveshaft and uni joint. He told me Jeep would not fix the problem as he had oversize tyres which over torqued the drive system...cost him $3,000. So I was glad I didn't stick with them!!!

But I would like to get a more aggressive tyre in standard size but they seem to be are non-existant at this stage.

Thanks heaps for the offer of the tips but I'm gonna do mine differently; 3 inch twin, 2 inch balance both on drivers side with just 2 tips barely visible.....thought about hydraulic quick-dumps straight from the collectors but I dunno yet.....sorta sleeper if ya know what I mean, but still offroadable.........engine builder friend in the States is making my headers.....couldn't find anyone willing to have a go at em here for a reasonable price......I"ll keep ya posted.......What part of the UK are ya from?........ kim

I have the Cooper ST 245/70/R17

I did 40,000km on the WG V8 towing a 16ft van then 18.5ft. They were loud and we just got use to them.

The dealer & I where both keen to swap the std tyres & put the Coopers on my new WH CRD, they still have 10mm of thread, and the funny thing they are a lot, lot quieter on the CRD maybe more sound proofing.

I never throught I would be a diesel fan but I love my CRD


Interestingly the WG speedo was 7km slow on original blowstones & 2 km faster on the Coopers, I have not checked the WH yet against the GPS but at 100k/h I stay with the traffic.

I recon. either the guy left some of the truth out of how he stuffed the grand or the dealer was a real,real prick, or he may have had even bigger tyres on

The dealer swap them over for me. & I never had any transmission prob's with the WG, in fact I did not have any prob's with the WG over 47,000km

He may have had the total weight of the jeep & van over the max specified weight

You're like me I never thought I'd be a diesel fan either til I took my WH for a test drive and that was it...I love it. A guy in a 3.0l nissan tried to drag me up a hill from a set of lights while I was in Brissie yesterday...I think he would have been severely embarrased!!!! You're probably right about that guy he didn't have a spare..he'd put a long range tank where the spare sits and because the Coopers are suppose to be bullet proof when it comes to punctures didn't reckon he needed one..what a noob!!!

I did 120k in my WG with no real problems, just an oil leak at the hose on the power steering box and a fuel pump "O" ring that lost seal causing the fuel pump to loose positive pressure...but she still fired up after a couple of cranks and ran like a charm in between....both fixed under warranty.

Have you got side steps on your WH? That guy reckoned his ST's were quiet too and he didn't have side steps wondering if that was creating my noise problem due to the sidelugs being in more of an enclosed environment in each wheel arch which created more of a fan effect?

When I wear my ATR's out think I'll go Pirelli AT's they won 4x4 Monthly's tyre test a few years back beat the Cooper ST's

ON the subject of tyres. I belong to the MJOC & we were doing our advance driver training in slippery conditions & bloody cold. A certain gent had read the same report and was raving about his new Pirelli. Well guess who got stuck/bogged etc more then any of other Jeep which had coopers, Bstones simplex etc. Did not have much to said at the end of the training.

only kidding had S/Step had them on a 99 Jackaroo & kept getting hung up on them. That was before I was the light & became a believer & understood
