Well I BBQ'd in the rain good Australia Day Tradition the bbq at least and any rain in the Outback is Welcome! It also means Herbie missis going out bush it's too muddy and flooded and I am too old and not stupid also means the 96 can sit for the week only a few more sleeps until the timing chain is replaced on the 1st It will be like a new 400.000 k engine ...
Let's see some modern cars live up to that ................
The 96 might not look like much but has come a long way in the last 9 years from the basket case it was back then ... there was no YouTube Certified XJ Mechanics around then just the outback toyota diesel cult
I need another Beer have a good Australia Day

nice and Green out here after all the rainy days. Dropped the 96 off at the mechanics workshop ready for tomorrow He is pretty busy I think he is picking up new customers left right and center as the other dickheads are dickheads
So even though it's not a huge job it will be out there for a few days I just hope he doesn't get called away to a break down on a property
Anyway New HB Timing Chain and Sprockets and Front Diff Oil Change
Paint might be Fucked But its what underneath that counts there are plenty pretty Shitboxes out there

It's always the way ... But this Time NO Drama! I got a call from the mechanic today about 2pm "I don't suppose you have a water pump? Yours is Stuffed" ............ and being Obsessed I replied "No Worries I have one on the shelf and a gasket I will bring it out soon with some extra coolant " I think he was a bit shocked ....
Anyway I turned up (drove into the workshop in the 99) with parts and fluid I told him and his mate that jeep owners always have parts ...
So the 8 yr old ebay high volume water pump is stuffed and I got to see the loose timing chain and broken guide tacky burnt crappy oil stains showed neglect in servicing in the past I told him it was a basket case when I bought it for $750 9 yrs ago
I supplied a crappy Haynes manual and told him how to get TDC and align the sprockets Gotta hold these diesel yota mechanics hands It's only a JEEP! Youtube is your friend don't be scared
So the 96 is on track You would not be able to hear the water pump with the timing chain noise .............
All Good 96 maintenance It will be home soon
Amidst all this I have bought another XJ .. ;)
A axial scx10 11 Jeep Cherokee ....
I have been looking at these for years and today pulled the trigger
I had to shop from China but I got the chassis and a detailed body with interior I am going to build my dream XJ

It will be cheap to run Now I just have to wait about 6 weeks
;)

No more toy jeeps the 96 is home with a very quiet sounding engine with 401.520.8 k on the clock He forgot to do the front diff oil change oh well shit happens ............... so really all I need to do is change the oil in the front diffs on both and all fluids are done ..
I still want to do the commodore injectors and new plugs on the 96
But it is all good in XJ Land

I must say this piqued my interest, I have heard of Dodge Neon and Ford V8 injector swaps but that is the first time I have heard Commodores mentioned, V6 or V8?
