Border Track end of August

Anyone keen for a Border Track trip near the end of August, start of September?
Would be good to see Adam finish it this time, and I've missed last couple of trips with Jeeps and other mates due to dodgy diff.
I'd say, leave Friday night, camp up the top, drive to Red Bluff on Saturday, then finish it and home on Sunday.

Grippy 06-08-2017 06:48 PM

So far Jim, Tattoedtank is Keen to go 👍

Awww if the timing was good I'd come.

I'll keep an eye out for the firm date. See what happens.

What's the fuel logistics like?

Grippy 15-08-2017 08:04 AM

Fuel is usually fine, have done it a couple of times innthe thirsty WJ with no issues, top up at Pinaroo, then easily have over a quarter by the time I make it to Tintinara to fuel up for trip back, or head down to Bordertown for the people heading back to Vic

If my jeep can make it then everyone else should be fine lol

Would making it next weekend suit people, meet up on the first night, Friday the 25th, or the weekend after? That might be tricky as it's Fathers Day.
Plan is camp up the top somewhere like Pine Hut Soak (awesome camp ground) then kick off around 10 in the morning giving time for people who want to rock up Saturday morning, then make our way down to Red Bluff, about 4 hours or so, camp for the night, arriving mid to late arvo, leaving time for some brews and to get the camp oven going, then do the mud stricken bottom part on Sunday morning and home for the arvo.

Grippy 15-08-2017 09:30 AM

It would be great to have some of the Vic people come along too

Hoobz 15-08-2017 10:52 AM

I'm really keen, so is the missus and 12yr old daughter, but it might be too tight timing.

I doubt this weekend (19-20th) is possible. I'll see tonight.
Or do you mean the weekend after that 26-27th.

Gunna give it a good crack though either way:D

A bit excited

For sure man, the more the merrier.
I'm trying to convince a couple of mates to come but it looks unlikely at the moment.

Tookles 15-08-2017 04:57 PM

SO so far, we have
Myself - Grippy - WJ Grand
Tattoedtank - Jim - Beasty Wrangler
Hoobz and family - WJ, woo hoo, another one
Tookles and family - XJ
maybe some others.

Tookles 15-08-2017 08:04 PM

 yeah it is. Still my favourite pic of the xj
Got a mate that may be interested in coming in his hilux too

Hoobz 15-08-2017 08:53 PM

Sorry guys... Looks like you're going to have to put up with us tagging along :hammer:

Lock us in. We're all looking forward to it.

Add me, my missus and one 12yr old, in Dexter the WG.

Plus another couple of keen mates in an Amorok, it's set up with lift, locker, 33" muddies and a winch.

Some others are still to get back to me, so possible more

Grippy 16-08-2017 09:12 AM

Excellent!
I'm owed some time at work so going to ask today if I can get a reliever for half day next Friday 25th and leave around lunchtime, getting to Pinaroo around 3 or so, giving time to get the fire going, have my T cooking in the camp oven for a decent time and just chill for a while with some brews.

Then Saturday, maybe head off around 10 or so, making our way to Red Bluff, stops on the way for lunch and playing around on sand hills etc and for when people get distracted by having phone reception on top of Trig Hill where the lookout tower is, make camp by 3 or 4, finish the track the next day, through the mud pools, haha

So what do ya all think? Pine Hut Soak for the first camp on Friday night? It's the best and biggest of them all up that way I think, then Red Bluff is massive too, and they both have long drops for the ladies.

There is usually some wood along the track to collect, campsites are fairly stripped, but maybe if each car can bring a bag of wood, so we can have a decent fire???? Heaps being given away on GumTree

Tattooedtank 16-08-2017 06:44 PM

Work boss and house boss both say it's ok for this trip! I'm in! [emoji869][emoji41][emoji869]

Haven't told the home boss yet, haha, I did mention it a few weeks ago though, so that counts

I'm busy working on Dexter after work a lot. Nothing too major.
Just niggly things that are best sorted for a longer outing from home.

Grippy 17-08-2017 07:19 AM

What sort of stuff needs fixing? I usually give mine a once over before a trip, just checking bolts etc

Not sure, I met you guys at Pine Hut Soak Campground. I did the top bit of the Border Track on my own (pitch black) and went across the top of the park to the campground. What time are you thinking of driving up there Jim?

Tattooedtank 18-08-2017 03:04 PM

I can leave Adelaide any time after 10am Friday

Amarok friend had dates mixed up, he was already committed to towing a drag car trailer on that weekend, can't come now, he's mega bummed.

So at this stage just my little family representing Vic.

Hoobz 18-08-2017 05:55 PM

Bummer about the Amarok ah well always next time :)

Grippy 18-08-2017 07:42 PM

I should be able to leave Modbury just after lunchtime. Pine Hut is easy to find, just before Pinaroo is Rosy bark, line or something road, head down there for a bit and it's on your left. Or head through Pinaroo, Chuck a right on the Border Tk, then head right where the pay box info sure thing is on that track and it's about 15 minutes up on your right
