private off road parks in victoria

as the title implies, I am curious to know why there are no private offroad parks in victoria like cityview and lcnp, what stands in the way?

Victoria is much smaller with less vast tracts of private land not already in use. I imagine land is much more expensive too. I am guessing there is probably some quite strict planning and environmental laws in play

Land is expensive in Victoria.. and most councils and shires are really conservative in planning mostly because of environmental factors. So operating a private offroad park is almost out of the question. But then, there are quite a lot of different tracks in Victoria anyway and I am sure there are some spots that are used for fun. :)

Just my thoughts, but given planning regulations, cost of insurance and management, doubtful an offroad park would be supported enough to be financially viable.

Atm we have access to most of the state to play, don't need to be coralled into just one or two areas.

There was a bloke on patrol 4x4 a while ago that was proposing a park near Dargo. It was not going to be financially viable unless they charged a fair bit and there was little enthusiasm. Would be great for people with cars that aren't drivable on the road, buggies and home built stuff.

Councils, greenies and other fools stand in the way for people to express themselves in their chosen activity.

The High Country is the biggest off road park in Australia and it's free. How could a private park even compete?

You have nailed it Grahame ! Dont say to much though as we dont want Parks or DSE trying to make us pay to go wheeling in our own high country.

you'll find that for example LCMP requires all vehicles to be road registered.

chris0375 16-05-2014 08:53 AM

I am guessing that is a personal injury liability insurance thing?

TAC get to stick their nose in even for unreg on private property.
Insurance would be a nightmare. Probably 3/4 of the entrance fee would be for personal injury/public liability. Disclaimers are not worth the paper they are written on.

chris0375 16-05-2014 11:22 AM

TAC is very good to have though. I used to have a dirt bike and simply being registered means you are covered anywhere. Means if you become paralysed etc you will have financial support for life. And people cannot sue you for personal injury. I am not sure if you would be able to if an accident happens on private property with an unregistered vehicle. Either way there is no getting around insurance would be a major issue for 4wd parks. Motocross courses don't seem to have too much trouble. And those bikes definitely aren't registered

As a member of MJOC and being affiliated with 4WDVIC we have a great working relationship with Parks Vic and DSE.

One of the big benefits of this is legal acess to MVO tracks throughout the state. Considering the High Country take up about 20% of all public land in Victoria I can't see it getting permanently closed anytime soon.

Those you have a working relationship with have no say. Unless you are a mate of Bill Jackson & his underlings like Ray Stubbings for the North east. Phil the Dill from the VNPA has more say than most of them. Even Ryan Smith is some what fearful of him.

You need to find yourself an old disused quarry.
30 years ago there was a great one 1/2 way between Werribee & Little River. It is long gone now.
There are a few old creek beds in the north east & I know of an old mine site that would work.
Problem is once every dog & his master starts wheeling there they will be soon locked up by timbotrog's mates.
