New 2015 JKU Entertainment unit

Hi All
I would like to upgrade the entertainment unit in my 2015 JKU. I would like a model with GPS, CD, USB Bluetooth & Reverse camera. Firstly I would like to know how easy or difficult it is to remove the original one. I was thinking of doing the install myself. Secondly I have seem some on EBAY for around $300. They seem to have all the right stuff including steering wheel controls. I have also been given prices close to the $1000 mark from JB Hifi & other suppliers. This seems to be a huge price difference & I am wondering if they are worth the extra cash. If anyone has installed an EBAY one, please let me know your opinions of it god or bad.
Any info would be appreciated

Rick

I bought a "generic" double DIN unit with bluetooth, GPS and reverse camera off Ebay...thinking it'll be an acceptable unit......had it install properly in my wife's car.
The GPS sucks....takes forever to lock and find satellites, the mapping is crappy.
The bluetooth is patchy, her iPhone and previous Samsung both dropped out all the time....she now uses the iPhone by speaker in a cradle rather than the bluetooth.
The reverse camera is also intermittant....the signal sometimes is upside down or just non existant.....
It does have a good radio, plays CD and DVDs OK........
My advice....pay the extra, buy a name brand, have it properly set up with a warranty thats worth more than the paper it's printed on. :)

The first question is what do you have currently?
If you only have the base model, you are way better off with a name brand setup. It will cost quite a bit as you'll need to replace the speakers and amp as well. Otherwise by the time you put in an ebay unit, your itchy ears will want to upgrade other things.

As for how easy it is to remove things, you'll need to be aware that MY15 JK has different speakers setup compare to previous years. So some of the guides you found online might not be relevant especially for the sound bar. So you better check carefully first.

I have a 2015 JKU CRD Sport with Alpine system with rear floor subwoofer.

If that's the case, you're more or less stuck with it unless you are prepared to spend big bucks.
I presume you have the 731N head unit since you have the alpine option.

Hi

If You have the 731N head unit, why do You want to change

Rickman 15-10-2015 05:20 PM

I was looking for a unit that has built in gps & reverse camera.

If that's the case, a 731N is one of ur best bet. Try to searh for one. They popup now and then.
There are other higher quality android based units out there around 700~1300. But feedbacks from users of those are quite polarized.
On top end you have the 9inch alpine unit. 😆

Alpine come in all standard 2015 models I'm pretty sure. I have it in my 2014 that was delivered in December last year.

MidnightMods 15-10-2015 07:18 PM

Is the 735N a upgrade factory unit then with sat nav?
http://www.driveuconnect.com/support...y-your-system/

snowing 15-10-2015 07:32 PM

735N is the European version.
731N is the Middle East + Australia version
730N is the North America version

MidnightMods 15-10-2015 07:48 PM

I pick up my rubicon on sat, and my VIN build sheet says it has a 735N in it :/

That's very interesting.. lol new one?

timbotrog 16-10-2015 12:06 AM

I got the GPS head unit thrown in when I bought my 2014 JKUR and I am pretty happy with it.

But......

If this was available then I would have bought it in a heart beat! And it's genuine Alpine to boot.

snowing 16-10-2015 12:58 AM

This one is so good when I saw that in real. Just too hard to swallow the price tag. :)

MidnightMods 16-10-2015 03:07 AM

Yer it just landed in aus not long ago, i pick it up on sat, ill post back and confirm which unit it is

Rickman 16-10-2015 06:19 AM

Ok so this seems to b more hassle than what it is worth. So my next option would be a reverse camera only then use my android phone for gps. So has anyone installed just a reverse camera?.

Spend $500 buy a VMS. It comes with reverse camera input and you get both On road and Off Road mapping.

I was quoted $3300 fitted as a show special back in August. (9" alpine)
I went for a 7" pioneer unit instead. Has GPS, reverse camera, Apple car play, android auto, digital radio ect, it's great. Still not cheap.

Rickman 17-10-2015 07:38 AM

What model pioneer did u get?

Buy Eonon 4.4 android for Jeep JK plug and play system on ebay. comes with canbus and adaptors . No cutting wires etc, great sound as well. Fits and looks the same as factory unit made for our jeeps.

Jimmy14 21-10-2015 10:29 AM

Check out the pioneer nex 4100
A lot of guys in the states are running them and rave about them
Quite well priced from a quick look on eBay and will do everything you want and more.

Just do some research to see what add ons you require for steering wheel controls to work

That's what I put in mine several months ago (Windows version) and couldn't be happier.

Read a lot on the forums, never posted, but I have in my 2007 Rubi a Insane Audio unit, love it. Basically a full on android computer in your dash, works sweet, easy as install, plug and play really. Got it from Double Black Offroad, but I see the price has jumped up since I bought it last year. I like the idea of being able to use anything I like in it with out being limited. i.e. for GPS I use Tom-tom on road, and Mudmaps offroad when I go metal detecting. Might be similar other stuff around in other brands. Might be worth a look at as comparison, or food for thought as to what is possible depending on your needs. For me between work and play it is perfect. Have a look at Insanes Forum page for more info. Cheers

You'll have to contact them and ask.

I was about to buy an Enon from an Australian based distributor that was advertised for 2007 - 2015 models when my gut told me to ask first. After I told them mines a 2011, they said it wouldn't fit as they got their ad wrong. They still haven't changed it.

Ended up buying from Enon themselves. It is was a direct plug and play. Didn't even have to program the steering wheel controls. It all worked immediately.

Yup the Eonon is a great system plug and play and great sound as well. I had the infinity amp 6 cd system and the Eonon plugged right to wiring and screws in same dash mountings and has worked great from the start. Factory fit.

Rickman 22-10-2015 03:57 PM

Have u installed a reverse camera?

I just wish it was Android, I'd get it if it was, I like to run the Apps I already own like torque and Sygic/Hema/TomTom etc.

Cheers

They do. Von Dep's is Android 4.4

You can either get them in Andriod or Windows. The only reason I bought the windows version is because I fitted a windows one in my TJ and I liked the igo nav system.

Steve F 23-10-2015 09:28 AM

When i looked on the site the android one was no longer available.

Cheers
Steve

Von Depner 23-10-2015 09:31 AM

Hi Steve F, I have the android 4.2 with Igo Nav. best Nav maps I think, reversing camera etc. The new model is 4.4. I paid $24 for the maps from a aussie ebay guy. You have to keep looking on ebay because these units sell very fast.

braddy 23-10-2015 09:55 AM

On their site, the Eonon Android one does not fit the Wrangler?

Model GA5177F
Perfect Fit for your Jeep Caliber/Compass/Grand Cherokee/Sebring/300C

Model D5177Z (not Android)
Perfect Fit for your Jeep Patriot/Wrangler

Von Depner 23-10-2015 10:14 AM

I think they all have the same radios ,but you must get the jeep canbus

braddy 24-10-2015 06:16 AM

Another thought might be to mount an Android tablet somehow?

I had an Eonon in my XR5. Initially I thought it was good, but then people were telling me the hands free made my voice sound 'tinny' and sometimes not the clearest to hear.

I found the GPS was not the best either.

In saying that, it was quite some time ago, and it was not an android version.
