How to fit 35's to my XJ
 

Howdy, well I had an embarrassing moment last week. I had ordered in a set of 35x12.5x15 muddies, drove my car around to the tyre place, lined them up next to my car to have a look (not inflated or on the rims) and they were not going to fit. Even though I have a few inches of lift and bushwhacker flares, they were going to rub on the sharp inside metal frame.

Is anyone running 35x12.5's. If so, what lift do you have and how did you fit them? Long-arms? Rear shackle extensions? Bumpstops. etc? Keen to find out.

I hear chopping the body apart is common practice... Haha

for a daily driver most XJ's need at least 4.5 inches of lift and cut the front wheel arches and cut and fold the rear ones. If you have bushwhacker flares if I'm not mistaken you should have already trimmed the front and rear wheel arches if you installed them correctly.

You will also have to consider regearing if it hasn't already been done.

I have not re-geared. I have no idea what to do there. The car already has approx 4 inches of lift (I think). The front and rear guards have been cut and folded to properly install the bushwhacker flares.

What I need to do though is cut and bang down the sharp lip on the underside of the wheel arch at the front. It would most certainly grind the 35" tyre in two. I'm fairly sure it won't ruin anything structurally.

Im wondering whether rear leaf shackle extensions and 2" front bump stops will help at all.

What are you wanting the 35's for, it won't drive very nice without regearing.

If you dont re-gear front & rear diffs to 4.10, your vehicle will be sluggish in acceleration, lack torque at wheels off-road, (and strain the poxy D35 to the max)
