I like the highrock and the shrockrocks. Not sure about the legality of the shrockrocks though not providing coverage at the front for the tyres.

My vote is a Warn bar with Slimline number plate under the passenger side shackle
|
Ok, I'll try not to be toooooo bias... :D
How I rate them: #1. Equal first for LoD & Mopar - sorry cant help it. LoD would have been my second choice after Mopar. #2. Shockworks - probaly the best looking stubby out, though as you said, may not look as good on a stockie + legality as tropey said. #3. Warn - great looking bumper, I like the fact that it incorporates the stock foggies easily. #4. PureJeep - quite simplistic in design, wouldn't offer much protection if you hit a roo! #5. Highrock - i'm not a big fan of this bumper at all, 1# i dont want and chrome or shiny crap on my jeep and 2# it reminds me of our stock bumper too much. |
I reckon only the highrock and mopar would be legal under the latest ADR bullshit bullbar laws in Oz

The Mopar and AEV bars (which are in a different price range) are the only ones which incorporate the crush cans, cover the front wheels and have the top of the hoop behind the front of the bar. The problem with ADR would be the non rounded edges of all of these, and any projections on most. With the possibility of ARB coming up with something soon probably worth the wait. The ARB bar for the TJ looks close to what we will likely to get. Frankly ARB is the only one likely to be compiant.ADR compliance for mine is a balance between my need to protect the front of my vehicle, mount a winch if I want and recovery points AND all the other people on the road including pedestrians. Try the link for a read. |

My favourite is the schrockworks, but looks like it will be the MOpar Bar for ADR reasons.
My local dealer is fitting on today to a customers car - will try and get pics..see if any different from US version on berts truck.. |
For the record the WARN bar is available from www.4wd1.com.au for $1,144 including free delivery to anywhere in Aus (I'm on their mailing list).

OR a US stock bumper? Does anyone know if stock US bumpers can be installed? They don't look so bad and are selling for cheap as chips (except for shipping that is...) e.g.

Im now thinking WARN bar without the grille hoop so its all sweet with ADR and a bit cheaper too. I picked up my JK tonight pics soon :D |
I like this bar in the link below. I think only for the studded surroundings on the lights but. I'm about to ring Quadratec to get prices on the aev bar and the Fab Fours one in the link with shipping to Darwin.
I already got a quote of $928.00 to get the Highrock Bar with the stainless steel loop bar sent to Darwin with delivery time being 6-8 days. But I shyed away from that bar because of it not being legal in Australia. http://www.quadratec.com/products/image_zoom.php?img=%2FAssets%2FImages%2F77264%2F77 264-lg.jpg |
Just for peoples information....
Prices from Quadratec for aev & Fab Fours bumpers: Aev: $1049.99 Purchase price $175.00 Shipping to Darwin Fab Four: $1099.99 Purchase price $683.00 Shipping to Darwin Highrock 4 X 4: $695.00 (With S/Steel tube bar) Purchase price $233.00 Shipping to Darwin |

Yeah US Dollars unfortunately.
Fab Fours bumper dimensions are: Length: 63" Height: 14" Width: 20" Weight: 80Lbs. |
so I was just about to order the AEV bumper from Quadratech, so do you guys think it wont pass ADR compliance?
|
I reckon the AEV bar is road-legal, as is the Mopar.
All the others have recovery points on the front face of the bar - a big no-no these days. It's not an ADR-issue, it's a roadworthy ( RTA in NSW ) issue. |
I agree with you salesguy!!
I mean HOW COULD THIS... MOPAR http://img364.imageshack.us/img364/7476/86346022qt0.jpg be more ADR compliant than THIS??? AEV http://www.aev-conversions.com/store..._secondary.jpg To me this one looks like the safer bar as it almost goes up to the guards, incorporates the standard fog lights, has the crush cans, and is air bag compliant. (Not saying the Mopar one doesn't but this one fills the same criteria plus more!) The AEV one also looks like it sits up a little higher too. (Maybe i am just trying to justify it to myself as I really like the look of the AEV bar) |

I would have thought the ARB Bar will be very similar to the AEV bar! I would wait for the ARB one....
|
I really like the AEV bar, Mopar should have bought the rights to this one instead of developing their own. I reckon I could sell the AEV bar 10:1 over the Mopar bar.
But dealing with AEV has proved to be impossible, I think they have waaaay too much on their plate and simply can't keep up. |

If you want to save some money you can buy the AEV without the winch mount from http://www.customjeepwranglers.com/jkfrontbumper.html I dont need the winch mount so this is looking like a good option.
All USD Bar: $799 Tow hooks: $99 Winchmount: $249 Skidplate: $299 |
Hi Dave,
on saturday i was at jeep maddington ordering our 4 rubicon and i asked about a front bar jeep price $2300 even my salesperson told me not to get it to pricey and not enough protection his own words he told me to got Northern 4Wd Wangara for the ARB bar said it cost $1700 i know thats not cheap either. Good luck. Mark:D |
$1700 is pretty pricey for the ARB bar, does that include fitting? The ARB on my XJ was $1200ish from memory!
|
yep that included fitting then again he also told me my old inline six 4l XJ motor was basically a old 245 hemi with fuel injection added.. what the ???
Mark:) |

WOW:o :o Thats the best looking bar I have seen bar(LOL) none. Think I might tell ARB to keep their bar..Anybody else ordering one? |
Yeah, it does look good. I'm half considering it... Even has spots for the fog lights...

Called into ARB in Brighton Vic this afternoon and asked them about the bar they are setting up for the JK.
They told me that it will look much the same as the KJ model they did have a small picture of it but it was very hard to see. Price will be $1650.00 fitted and that's colour coded but I'm still not sure if that's with the lower skid plate?,the guys are going to let me know later on. I think the winch option will cost a little more but they didn't say. So have a look at the KJ and that will give a fair idea as to what it will look like. Cheers Robbo |

Remembering that the AEV bar has not been ARD complied, so you would 'have' to get it complied with your state road authority.
Personally its something I would be doing if I went down the AEV road. If you hit a pedestrian or another vehicle, then your insurance and roadworthiness issues start giving you greif regardless of who is at fault. Something to consider. |
I got told today that the ARB winch bars are on their way to the dealers in the next week. Apparently they have finished the production run and are just going through the final stages???????
Hope its not just more Bull. |
the ARB bars are a little steep in my opinion, specially since they are talking at around $750-1200 USD for them in the states.
Apparently they are getting their 1st shipment in the next week or so. might even work out cheaper to get an Aussie made bar shipped back from the US!!! how does that work out???? |
has anyone noticed the price difference between www.quadratec.com and www.customjeepwranglers.com for the AEV bar??
Quadratec have for US$1150 while custom jeep have it for US$799 That makes the Custom Jeep sourced bar AU$900 (before shipping) |
oops, think I just work out why - the Custom Jeep kit is the bare kit (no hooks or winch plate....)
|
What does e-coated mean? They say "Comes E-Coated, ready for paint" I assume I'd need to pay someone to paint it?
|
This MIGHT be the ARB bar and even then its only a tiny out of focas glimpse but we havent got anything else yet so I figured I will post it
