2011 CRD WK2 - Battery Light and she DIED Hi All
Well what a Fck Upped Oz day. Thursday night going to get my girls from school, battery light comes on, I think "That's not good" just had battery replaced 2 months ago, turn corner AC goes, Windows go down, ABS light on, then christmas tree on dash, luckily was in a school zone so rolled to curb. turned her off and got smell like an electrical burnout smell. RACQ - wouldn't touch it or even look at it apart from trying to get windows back up, which completely drained their Battery Pack. Towed to Auto Electrician to try diagnose in Sunny Coast. Had a quick call to Jeep at 4:30pm, explaing scernario and asked what is worst case, Alternator, PCM, Battery and 4-5K ?? End result, no camping, trip cancelled (kids and wife devastated) and thinking of binning this thing.. Has anyone else had this catastrophic ending ? I know there was a P60 recall for the 160Amp Alternator but the Diesel is 220Amp I believe. Any help truly appreciated.. Thanks |
You better have a look at the T36 Alternator recall thread that is currently running. It affects Diesels also.

Your looking at the glass as half empty, look at it as half full, it didn't happen up some remote trail with a 20km walk back for help in 35 degree heat.

@Classic Boy - I did look at it like that also. However could have been kids on a Footpath also with an uncontrollable car ??
@Ryan - T36 is for the Petrol I believe. I had a call from FCA this morning, and they verified no current recall but that doesn't exclude a future one. Car currently enroute now to Sunco Jeep. |

T36 is for the petrol, but it is becoming clear the same issue affects the diesels too. Current situation is that Jeep are designing a new alternator to fix the issue, in the mean time they are fitting existing parts for failed units. The petrols are being done under warranty, the diesels aren't, but they are advising to keep your receipts and if/when there is a recall you will be able to get payment. Verbal discussions between diesel owners who've had the problem and FCA directly indicate its pretty likely a recall is coming for the diesels.

It would also be worth submitting a complaint via Ashton Wood (Destroy my Jeep). He has a direct line to the Jeep Execs now and is sending through any issues that aren't getting handled correctly by dealers.
https://complaints.ashtonwood.com.au/ Under current laws Jeep should be fixing the problem under statutory warranty, the alternator shouldn't blow and take out the battery and PCM like this. They are obliged to fix it. |
