XJ rear diff gone boom

Howdy,

getting a thread started for pugsly, while he waits for a tow truck.

Seems his rear diff on his XJ has seized, gone boom etc.. either way, rear isnt turning any more. Happened going down the ramps of a carpark of all places.

So, whats the best options for a better rear diff, he's thinking of taking the opportunity to get a tougher diff since it probably needs to be replaced anyway.

P.S, I'm a spy here.. I drive a patrol, my diffs don't blow when driving in car parks :) (although he did drag my sorry POS 10k's when I stuck the fan through the radiator)

Welllll .....

Since its your fault he has a problem ... just send a blank cheque to Wooders Garage or some other jeep parts supplier and let them sell pugsly whatever they want to .....

:D :p :D :p

There is a D35 upgrade kit ... I believe, or

Might be able to find one of the few old and tired chrysler 8.25" diffs in the country or

As Murray said ... fit a d44 ............ which has more parts available than the 8.25"

Dana 44 is a popular upgrade for the XJ. Diffs are'nt hard to find. Just need to do a little fab work and check the ratio's are correct and your ready to roll. And it will be a difficult task to break a 44 running 31's or less.
I picked one up a few months back for $500.

Bloody bloody bloody!

Thanks for starting the thread Biggles.

Was just puttling along out of the long/short term carpark and the rear end locked up. No forward, no back... Wouldn't roll with the tcase in neutral either. Since I was blocking a lane of traffic and the tow truck wouldn't fit in the car park I dropped in 4 low and gently tried moving forward. It let go with a bang and I managed to limp out in 2wd with a clunk and the ocassional want to bind again. So now its at poly getting looked at and I guess I'll get the verdict today or tomorrow. I was thinking lockers and suspension sooner or later, looks like it might be sooner. I'm not sure of going to a d44 - the cost of putting it in will kill me... 31s are enough for me. What's this d35 upgrade?

Goes to show just how good a Jeep is then eh ... ;) :D

Took ages for the poor little thing to show the effects ... of dragging a great big fatarsed pootrol around ... which killed it ......

Make him pay up pugsly ...
