Noisy lower windscreen trim

Hi all,

I was cleaning the car the car today and noticed this plastic trim coming away from the windscreen. I've done a bit of reading and it would appear to be the Cowl Top Panel, and probably explains the vibration from the front of the car on windy days.

Now, I'm not super keen on dropping $200 on a piece of plastic (especially since I'm budgeting for roof racks at the moment!) so I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get one locally for a better price, or if there is any issue with putting a bead of silicone under it and sticking it to the window?

Cheers,

Jarrod

If it were me, I’d drop past my local windscreen place (like O’Briens ect..) and see if one of the fitters will come out and have a look. I bet they would have a good idea or two and couldn’t imagine they would charge you to look at it.

Like Fishframe said.. ask a windscreen shop.
I would probably get a tube of clear window/rubber silicon and apply a bead under the rubber and simply stick it down. It would stop the vibes, add a better degree of water resistance and cut the noise out.

On my XJ, i had a new windscreen fitted. It howled and whistled in the wind until i attacked the seal with some black silicon. Worked a charm and never had a single hassle in years.

Cheers,

On other Jeep I just put a small bead of mastic and bedded the trim in that, held really well and doesn't go hard....

Yeah I'd choose mastic, not silicone.

The screen butchers also rip out and destroy the little push in lugs that go into the guard at the top.Got a chinese screen in my WK 2 and the fit was shocking .Wrong bend on roof line, one side didnt follow A pillar line. Not only that .25 mill thinner than OE and chip a lot easier.

Had the same issue after a windscreen replacement with the rubber/plastic lower trim being warped and vibrating horribly when at 80kmh or more. Not sure I'd blame the replacement guys as it doesn't exactly look like a particularly durable part. Solved the vibration with a bead of silicon however expect this will mean a new trim will be required if I ever get the windscreen replaced again.
