Questions on a XJ Lift

So i have owned my 2001 XJ for a few years and haven't really touched it much however i really want to get into a lift kit for it but am not really sure on how to calculate what the overall height would be.

So i want to keep it sort of legal, i have been looking at a 1.5 inch EFS Lift kit which includes both new coils and leafs however since the jeep has sagged over the years im not too sure if this would be the right way to go. I am also considering upping the tires to maybe 30 inch with the standard rims.

As far as i know these XJs were around 6.8 inch stock from the factory, with all my calculations i have calculated that the lift including tires would bring it to roughly 9.8 inch however im not too sure what that means as in would this be the lift from body down only or the lift of entire rig.

This may seem pretty straight forward to most of you however this will be my first lift and i have pretty much no idea. :o

Also just wondering of what you guys think of EFS in general on these jeeps.

I think that 1.5" EFS lift is a good compromise between no lift and a car that drives like a bear. I had a 2" lift on my xj and besides the coils and leaves there were wedges for the leaves and spacers on the rear engine mounts to level out the driveshaft. Then the coils had extended bumpstops. Plus the 4 HD shockies. Due to the increased angle of the panhard rod every bump you go over moves the steering and you are constantly fighting the wheel to drive a straight line. My current KJ with IFS drives like a dream!
Any tyre over 30" messes with the gearing. I tried towing my 'van with 31's but it didn't work. I settled for 30" bfg muds that had the same rolling circumference as the 'destinations'.

if you want to keep it legal, the height of your vehicle is stated in the "Operating Manual"..you are legally allowed to be 2" higher without certification

(there is a diagram, and I *think* it is to the top of the roofracks)

once you have the lift fitted, an exact measure would presumable show max wheel/tyre size.

There is a ton of info on AJOR about XJ lifts. Just remember that the sport has a 1" lift standard ex the factory. If you have a sport then a purchased 2" lift will only go 1" over what you had when it was new.

EFS.....great overall quality finished rear leaf springs.
im using EFS 02E rear leafs, 150kg constant load/40mm raised, or you could go 300Kg/40 mm raised
